Synopsis:

a-tigers-tale-call-of-the-wilde-laura-morriganWhen a normally mellow tiger at a rescue facility trees a terrified vet, animal behaviorist Grace Wilde needs to use her psychic ability to get to the root of the problem…

A tiger can’t change his stripes—but if his behavior changes suddenly, there’s a reason. So when even-tempered Boris the Siberian tiger goes into attack mode, Grace knows there’s more to the story. Something is agitating the big cat. As she uses her telepathic ability to calm the tiger, she realizes he has witnessed a theft—not of something but of someone. A teenaged volunteer at the animal rescue facility has been taken…kidnapped.

The problem is Brooke Ligner’s parents believe their troubled daughter ran away and Grace can’t exactly reveal her source. Even though sexy cop Kai Duncan is aware of Grace’s secret ability, he can’t initiate an investigation based on the word of a tiger. Now, as Grace searches for solid clues to rescue the missing teen, it’s the human predators she’ll need to watch out for…

Review:

Grace Wilde is an animal behaviorist with a secret edge. She can hear and understand what the animals are thinking. As an empath she sometimes gets more than she bargained for. When Grace is called in to help with a mild mannered Siberian Tiger gone bad, she steps into a wild ride of mystery. Boris (the tiger) is upset that one of the young members of the staff at Happy Asses Rescue Farm has been “taken”. As Grace tries to understand his agitation, she realizes that the teen Brooke may have been kidnapped. There is a problem getting anyone else to believe in her theory. And Grace can not tell the police she learned the information from a TIGER.

Luckily for Grace, her hunky cop friend Kai Duncan knows about her talent and believes her. Even as they try to get closer to each other, their actions in the search for missing Brooke Linger find them in danger and in hot water. Kai with his superiors and Grace with Brooke’s mob boss biological father and his associates. Luckily for Grace, her sister Emma is a female Bruce Lee. Grace is also assisted by several interesting animal characters. Brooke’s mother and stepfather, however refuse to help in any way. They even refuse to report Brooke as missing to the police, saying she must have run away.

I have to admit I was a bit unsure if I would enjoy A Tiger’s Tale. Loving traditional cozy mysteries without paranormal twists as I do, I was a bit skeptical. My love of animals was what tempted me to read this book. I can truly say I enjoyed it. The book was well written, engaging and entertaining.  This is the second in the Call of the Wilde Mystery series. I have not read the first installment and think this is a series that would benefit from reading it.  That is not to say this second one can not stand on its own. It can.

I would definitely recommend A Tiger’s Tale to anyone who enjoys a good cozy with a touch of “magic”. Animal lovers would enjoy this book as well. Not only are the human characters well developed, but the animals are as well. There is a bit of mild romance and tons of flirting too. You also get mobsters, wayward teens, martial arts, grumpy old men and a playful mini donkey with a habit of trying to escape. This is a wonderful read that keeps you guessing. And if you are anything like me, it makes your extremely jealous of Grace’s abilities. They have to be every animal lover’s dream.
