Two men, one face. One man seeks to embrace destiny, the other to escape it. Danyael Sabre spent sixteen years clawing out of the ruins of his childhood and finally has everything he wanted–a career, a home, and a trusted friend. To hold on to them, he keeps his head down and plays by the rules. An alpha empath, he is powerful in a world transformed by the Genetic Revolution, yet his experience has taught him to avoid attention. When the perfect human being, Galahad, escapes from Pioneer Laboratories, the illusory peace between humans and their derivatives–the in vitros, clones, and mutants–collapses into social upheaval. The abominations, deformed and distorted mirrors of humanity, created unintentionally in Pioneer Lab’s search for perfection, descend upon Washington D.C. The first era of the Genetic Revolution was peaceful. The second is headed for open war. Although the genetic future of the human race pivots on Galahad, Danyael does not feel compelled to get involved and risk his cover of anonymity, until he finds out that the perfect human being looks just like him.
Review:
I had a bit of trouble getting into the book. There are a lot of characters and their motivations are unclear. It felt like a puzzle that I could not figure out. I’m glad I stuck with it because it’s a deep emotionally fulfilling story.
Roland and Jason Rakehell played with creation with Galahad. They subject him to horrible experiments; a life time of pain. When he escaped, I cheered him on – anything to get him away from those men who care nothing for him. They only care about furthering their careers. They’re both despicable human beings. In their quest for recognition they created a few mistakes along the way. Those mistakes escape as well and begin a reign of terror.
When Danyael met Galahad, it was shocking to realize they have the same face. They’re identical and the plot thickens! Danyaels’s past is a blank, but they must work together to find answers.
Zara, Xin, Miriya, Lucien – each character is layered and flawed. I appreciate flaws in a character and Jade Kerrion has developed each character to the fullest.
I connected most with Danyael. He is beautiful to look at but in incredible pain due to childhood abuse. I understand as I was abused by a parent as well. It twists you up inside. Jade Kerrion got the mentality of an abused person so spot on that I felt I was reading about my own experience. Despite being damaged by his past, Danyael does what is best for the people around him. He’s selfless; willing to lose his own life in protection of others.
Danyael could be a bitter man (like Jason). He has every right to be bitter when he has to fear the motives of those around him. Many agencies have shady motives and only seek to control his talents.
I was blown away by each plot twist. I would think I had a grasp on the puzzle and then it would suddenly twist and change. I love that! It kept me interested and on my toes.
I am a fan of Jade Kerrion’s writing. I have no idea how they will prevail against the military but I cannot wait to find out in Perfection Betrayed.
I would describe Perfection Unleashed as a supernatural medical thriller. Perfection Unleashed is intelligently written with layers and layers of plot. You have to peal it back slowly but it’s worth it.
I recommend Perfection Unleashed to those looking for an intelligent read (you may have to grab a medical dictionary).
