Synopsis:
Intergalactic mercenary Kat Darah has been ordered to keep her shape-shifting ability a secret from everyone but those closest to her, for her own safety. She’s learned how to control the feral rage… for the most part. But when Lieutenant Rygard’s military unit goes missing, she’ll use every skill she has to find her man.
Lt. Christopher Rygard has witnessed his girl shift, and he still wants her. After Kat rescues him from alien clutches, he’d like nothing more than to wrap her in his arms again, but his first duty is to his men. And half of them have been shipped off-planet to be sold as slaves.
Kat and Rygard will need to form a new team to go deep undercover, posing as gladiators and learning to fight together—not just side by side—in order to survive. In the arena, it’s all about who is the strongest predator… (Goodreads)
Review:
I finished this book and purchased the first book in the series, that’s how good this story is!
It is a perfectly balanced military sci-fi: aliens, shifters, action-adventure, romance.
Kat is an incredibly strong women, not just because of her shifter abilities but as a person as well.
How she looked at herself and tried to work with both sides of her nature was an interesting look into her thought process. She is great for Rygard, awesome team, both as a couple and when fighting and working. I also wonder where Max and Kat wind up, what kind of relationship they form.
The Captain Dev was an interesting character and I hope he gets his own story. I would love to know more about him. The way he handled Kat, his ship and those that came on it were perfect.
Rygard, what can I say, what a nice, strong guy, how he is with Kat and the way he talks to her worked so well, they fit together in a real way. Some hot stuff going on between them, but not so much that it takes over the story. Again, so well balanced, what an amazing author.
Bharguest, I want more backstory about his character. Is he really as bad as he seems? What is his agenda? Where is he going?
I loved all the different aliens in the Colosseum. This story has a different and fresh take on shifters, with a focus on many other areas. The ending had things tied up nicely, but with lots of room for more. MORE Please!
What a wonderful story, characters, action and writing. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys this genre and it fits in so many that it should appeal to anyone who enjoys one or more of them. This series by this author will be an auto buy for me and I will definitely be checking out her other books.
