Review:

The After House is a fun read the includes the paranormal – ghosts, angels, romance, intrigue, personal growth and relationships. Michael Phillip Cash’s writing style is descriptive and engaging. Each character grows as the tale goes on. Comedy, tragedy, love and more intermingles in the quick and entertaining read.

Remy Galloway and her daughter Olivia are picking up the pieces of their lives. Remy has run from the tragedy of her failed marriage to make a go of it in the historic harbor town of Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. She is renting a 300 year old home and making strides as a yoga instructor. The only contact she has with her cold hearted ex-husband pertain to their young daughter. Scott has his life with his new wife Priscilla and baby Evan.

While Remy and Olivia are settling into their new life, Remy’s mother tries playing matchmaker by talking a prominent Cold Spring Harbor resident into inviting her for coffee. Hugh is more than the caretaker and owner of the town’s whaling museum and that fact comes in handy for Remy’s safety. While her life seems to be coming unraveled, Eli the ghost and original owner of her home decides to make his introduction. The reader is actually introduced to Captain Eli Gaspar in the first few page of the book. With throw back passages interspersed throughout the book, Eli’s life and adventures are revealed. The appearance of two mysterious supernatural characters in the book bring another layer to the novel.

With so much going on in The After House and so many layers of information one would think the story would get confusing or get sidetracked. Yet the storylines are easy to follow, while at the same time they are entertaining. So much is packed in this small book and it all pays off for the reader. Cash is enjoyable to read and this novel is fast paced while still being thorough. Everything has a purpose and a meaning.

I would recommend The After House to any reader that delights in the paranormal, fun ghosts, enjoyable angels and the like. The romance in this book should appeal to those readers that enjoy a touching, heartwarming, love at first sight story. There really is something for everyone in The After House without losing any quality or depth. Cash is an intelligent author who is able to draw the reader in and keep them there.
