‘HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS’ GETS A SECOND IMAGE, THIS TIME WITH MAGIC

As much as I try to keep things upbeat and positive here on MTV Movies Blog, there are some occasions where I have to let a little bit of cold cynicism shine in. As was the case earlier this week, when the first image emerged from “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” Even the film’s three main stars — Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint — looked disappointed in that pic, which didn’t even show enough of the surrounding environment for people to guess at what might be going on.

HARRY POTTER CLOCK SHOWS FAMILY’S WHEREABOUTS THROUGH THE MAGIC OF TWITTER

Harry Potter fans will no doubt remember the Weasley’s strange but practical clock. Instead of telling the time, the clock showed the location or status of each Weasley, including “mortal peril” at the 12 o’clock position. A software version of the clock would be awesome enough, but someone with mad workshop skills went ahead and made a physical version of the clock that relies on good ol’ muggle technology to work.

DISNEY TO REMAKE THEIR OWN SCI-FI ADVENTURE ‘THE BLACK HOLE’

The Walt Disney Company is preparing to reinvent one of their own titles. They’ve hired Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski and producer Sean Baileyto develop a new version on 1979’s The Black Hole.Travis Beacham will handle the script writing duties. Beacham doesn’t have a ton of experience, but he was one of the writers on Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans.

The original Black Hole featured many big names for the time including Maximilian Schell, Robert Forster, Joseph Bottoms, Yvette Mimieux, Anthony Perkins, Ernest Borgnine, and Roddy McDowall and Slim Pickens in voice acting roles. It told the story of a space fleet that discovers a lost ship floating near a black hole (think Event Horizon, but with Disney!).

TAYLOR LAUTNER MAY BECOME BOY-TOY HERO ‘MAX STEEL’

As Taylor Lautner’s Hollywood profile surges, his handlers are looking for a project for the teen wolf to sink his teeth into next. One strong possibility: “Max Steel,” a Paramount movie about a teenage superhero.

The actor’s representatives at WME and Management 360 are brainstorming about the next move for the 17-year-old Michigan native who plays Jacob in the “Twilight” franchise.

JACKSON RATHBONE TALKS THE LAST AIRBENDER

At a press conference at NewCon 2009, Actor Jackson Rathbone talks about his role as Sokka in the upcoming film “The Last Airbender”, based on the hit Nickelodeon cartoon series “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. “The Last Airbender” by director M. Night Shyamalan (The Happening) stars Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga: New Moon), Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), Cliff Curtis (Push) and Seychelle Gabriel (The Spirit). These photos were taken at Founders Hall on the Girard College in Philadelphia, which was used as a set location back in June 2009.

The reason why they don’t show more in the Harry Potter image is to keep us all guessing, which is smart. As time goes on we will get more and more Deathly Hallow teasers to tantalize us, so we all must be patient.

That Harry Potter clock is fantastic, it’s very Steampunk-esque. It would make a nice edition to my library…heh heh.

Avatar should be called Hype-atar. I really hope this flick owns up to the all the hype surrounding it. Regardless, the visuals look amazing and I can’t wait till it opens. Till I saw this teaser I had no idea either actor was in this film. Do you pay attention to all the teasers and hype surrounding the film, or are you like me and don’t because want to be totally surprised?

With all the reboots being made, it’s no surprise that ‘The Black Hole’ is on the list. Heck, before you know it, all films ever made will be remade. Sounds a bit sarcastic, because I am being sarcastic. I don’t know about you, but I’m a little tired of all the remakes. What’s your take on all these films being remade?

Taylor Lautner fans must be jumping up and down at the news that he might play a superhero. With those abs and cutie face he could pull it off perfectly. What do you think?

M. Night gets a bad rap for never producing a film that compared to the Sixth Sense. I say, give the guy a break. As critical as I might be about films sometimes, I have a soft spot for Shyamalan and I always see his movies when they hit the theater. The story line for The Last Airbender sounds a bit complex, but with this type of complexity comes great visuals. We’ll just have to wait and see.  Are you an M. Night Shyamalan fan?
