TV SHOW NEWS FOR 12/14: FRINGE, STARGATE, SUPERNATURAL & MORE

Fringe borders reality

www.sffchronicles.co.uk: The science fiction TV series Fringe has been bordering on reality recently with lame stories and nothing much about the alternate universe where William Bell played by sci-fi favourite Leonard Nimoy is located.

But last night’s episode which was shown a couple of days after it had been shown in the US has really got fans excited. The episode concentrated on Walter Bishop and reveals how and why he appears to be slightly crazy.

Syfy renews Stargate Universe and Sanctuary

scifiwire.com: Syfy announced it was renewing its new series Stargate Universe for a second season and it was also picking up Sanctuary for a third season. Both series were given orders for 20 episodes, which will begin airing in the fall.

Sanctuary is currently in the midst of airing its second season, while Stargate Universe is on hiatus between the first half of season one and the second half, which will air in April. Universe has been controversial with Stargate fans, who’ve shown a mixed reaction to the franchise’s new direction.

Eight names I pray we hear tomorrow morning

www.nypost.com: The 2009 Golden Globe nominees will be announced in less than 24 hours and I’m already starting to get excited — not only is this my favorite out of all the award shows (the stars of TV and film all in one place? Heaven!) but 2008 finally offered up so many small screen contenders, the winners shouldn’t be easily predictable.

And while I will weigh in with my theatrical thoughts after the nominations are announced at 8:30 a.m., I wanted to take this opportunity and speak my mind about the TV categories. There are eight names I desperately hope are not only uttered tomorrow, but also on Jan. 17 — when the winners are crowned!

Best Series, Drama: “True Blood”

Surely I’m sounding like a broken record at this point, but in its second season “True Blood” not only established itself as one of the most addictive, creative, shocking and engaging shows on television, but also one of the most popular. Now that more than 9 million people have been bitten by the “Blood” bug, it should not only clinch a second nod, but also its first win!

Best Supporting Actress: Elizabeth Mitchell

Why Elizabeth Mitchell has yet to be nominated for her stunning character work as Juliette on “Lost” is as much of a mystery to me as the show’s end game. But considering her previously hardened doc became an emotionally exuberant woman this year and provided the finale with countless heartbreaking moments, I believe she will finally get her due.

‘Supernatural’ Reruns Begin on TNT in 2010

www.buddytv.com: Supernatural fans are about to get a lot more of their show, as TNT has purchased the syndication rights and will begin airing repeats in January 2010.  The CW sci-fi drama will air weekdays at 10am starting Monday, January 4.

While TNT is mostly known for cop procedural reruns like Law and Order, mornings on the network have a sci-fi slant.  Currently repeats of Angel air 6-8am followed by three hours of Charmed.  Now Supernatural can be added to that list.

Supernatural returns to the CW with the second half of season 5 starting Thursday, January 21 at 9pm.

MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’ TV Remake Has Found Its Star: Tyler Posey

hollywoodcrush.mtv.com: Werewolves are really, really hot right now. In fact, hot werewolves are even, well, hotter. So, it was inevitable that a TV version of the classic 80’s flick, “Teen Wolf,” which starred primo 80’s star, Michael J. Fox, would be coming to a small screen in the near future. And, now the reboot has put a name to the token teen wolf’s face.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the MTV series has found its star in Tyler Posey (pictured), who is best known for starring in the ABC Family series “Lincoln Heights” and for playing Jennifer Lopez’s precocious little boy in the 2002 rom com “Maid in Manhattan.” Other names added to the cast list include: Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed and Dylan O’Brien. “Criminal Minds” creator Jeff Davis will be writing the pilot — and we already know he is very capable of working with attractive guys! Matthew Gray Gubler anyone?
