trueslant.com:STEPHENIE MEYER ACCUSED OF BRAINWASHING GENERATION OF YOUNG GIRLS

Author: Chris54 | Filed under: Author News, Book News, News Blog

So Jordan Scott, author of a vampire novel called The Nocturne has sent Stephanie Meyer a cease and desist order accusing her of plagiarizing the plot of Breaking Dawn.

My lawyer is busy preparing a cease and desist order for Meyer to stop brainwashing my daughters.  Breaking Dawn is the culmination of what can only be described as conservative Christian sexual propaganda and misinformation.

Meyers continues this miseducation of our youth by having her teen heroine, Bella (yes,, the heroine’s name is Bella and she’s beautiful) wait till she’s married to have sex.  Of course, Bella wants to have sex before she marries her vampire boyfriend Edward, BUT sex with her vampire boyfriend will KILL her since he’s so super powerful and she’s just a weak, delicate flower.  When the two are finally married, right after her high school graduation, they do have sex before she’s a vampire and it very nearly does killer her (there’s a lot of bruising and a down pillow torn to shreds by Edward in an effort not to rip her head off).

There isn’t many good things that I could say about this (being nice folks) but I will say this: I completely and totally disagree with Jordan Scott’s suit/opinions!  (I can already hear the screeches from BD fans across the world) eeekk!

So what do you think, does she make a good agrument, do you see her side, if so why? Or do you find it a load of rubish? Do you honestly think that this law suit will hold up in court?

The author is not actually suing Meyer, she is trying to be witty. With emphasis on the word trying.

It did bother me that they waited and that Bella was so weak during the series, but she turns into the strongest one, so it kind of evened out. But this lawsuit is ridiculous. Maybe the person filing it should take the book away and, hmm, I don't know, actually TALK to their daughter. I mean, who ever heard of children learning morals from their parents anyway?
  • what exactly is stephenie meyer supposed to cease and desist doing? the books are already released. if you don't want your children reading them, then don't let them read sm's work. if your child has the wrong ideas, talk with them and help them understand. we can't blame that on authors. i don't agree with many of the themes of sm's work, but it's entertainment, not to be taken so seriously.

This woman is off her rocker. I consider myself a feminist and I don't share any of this woman's views. If she had read the series she would understand that the character traits which led Edward to his sexual restraint and Bella to her decision to keep the baby were central to the story. The only way Edward would ever change Bella was if her life was in danger. The idea of a sexy-lovemaking-vamp-biting on the neck-non-Caeserian scene is cool, but it was never going to happen any other way. I agree, SM is admittedly conservative. But I think the author of this article needs to read the entire series. The sensuality in this series is palpable. And lastly - no book should ever be considered a guide for a generation of female sexuality. We can figure that out on our own.

Maybe my lawyer should prepare something to make sure that my daughters are excluded from her suit?

Well as much as I love Stephenie and Breaking Dawn, I actually kinda think this woman has a point there...
Don't hate me now, but there were some things that bothered me in the book. Bella is a bit young to be married and I kinda had the feeling the whole "wait until marriage" thing might have been caused by Stephenie's personal beliefs.
As for the rest of the allegations, I think they're ridiculously exaggerated. However, if you read the comments under the article, the author even says that she is joking about suing Stephenie, so people shouldn't take it that serious and there is no need for the Twilight fan world to get all stirred up.
  • is she serious? is april 1st again?
    sry, this is rubish!!!
  • total nut job. she is ridiculous.
