THE SCORPIO RACES BY MAGGIE STIEFVATER: OBS PLAYLIST

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Valerie

The Scorpio Races is a book, quite simply, about racing killer horses and possibly dying. However, when a girl, Puck, joins the races, that sparks a series of events that occur in The Scorpio Races. These events include scenes featuring Sean Kendrick, a totally amazing guy, her brother Finn and a horse Dove, along with many others.

1. Pony Express by Chris M. Bernotas.

This is actually a piece meant to be played by a band. I think it’s pretty cute and energetic. I listen to classical music a lot, so I just had to add it to this playlist.

2. Heartlines by Florence + the Machine.

This song is so empowering. I imagine Heartlines as a song that would be on Puck’s playlist called “In Which I Listen to Music To Kick Butt Later.” I absolutely love this song, and I won’t ever stop!

3. Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones.

I think it’s pretty obvious why I chose this one… However, it’s also a beautiful song, not just a song with a fitting title.

4. Wild Horses by Natasha Bedingfield.

Natasha Bedingfield is one of my favorite artists. She has a huge range and a great voice.

5. Hometown Glory by Adele.

This song just has the right vibe. Puck’s hometown is very different from any town on the mainland, and it’s extremely special to her.

6. Thank God for Hometowns by Carrie Underwood.

Once again, this is one of those songs about hometowns. Carrie Underwood nails the feeling, as well as referencing some of the events that happen in the book. But that’s just a coincidence…

7. Chasing Pavements by Adele.

I feel like Chasing Pavements is great for the scenes where Puck is scared and eventually gains confidence. Adele is amazing, and so is Puck.
