IS VAMPIRE DIARIES’ PAUL WESLEY REALLY A BLOOD SUCKER? NINA DOBREV SURE THINKS SO!

Source: eonline.com

It could be worse. A report could be going around that Paul Wesley will embark on a rap career.

But that’s not the kind of story his Vampire Diaries costar Nina Dobrev is trying to spread. And after hearing the reasons, we can’t help but wonder if there isn’t some truth to those vampire rumors…

“First, I have fangs,” Paul explained at the Monte Carlo TV Fest. “Second, I am kind of an insomniac. And third, in the first season, I was always able to beat everyone to wherever they were going even though they left before me. Somehow I’d get there ahead of them and I’d be standing there in a black rain coat. And they were like, ‘How’d you do that? How did you get here so fast?’ And so I started playing on that and purposely started trying to do things to freak them out a little,” he joked.

Funny. If we turn around and he’s suddenly standing behind us as we type this…

SCIFI SHOW FINDS SACTUARY IN VANCOUVER

Source: montralgazette.com

VANCOUVER – Ian Tracey’s face is black, blue and bloody, but he’s not getting any love from a stone-faced Amanda Tapping. Dressed in black leathers and knee-high boots, the veteran actor is getting tough with this alien brand of Cybil – an “abnormal” with multiple personalities – because, well, the survival of humanity depends on it.

Welcome to the Vancouver set of Sanctuary – “the little show that could.”

A special-effects and character-driven series recently picked up for its third season by Canadian and US networks, Sanctuary is just the latest Sci-Fi skein to call Vancouver home – carrying on a legacy forged nearly 20 years ago with the birth of X-Files and the eventual installation of the Stargate spin-off family.

Chapter 3 “Drawing Dark” by Chris

Characters:
Luce
Roland
Miss Sophia
Daniel

Places:
Luce’s dorm room
Sword & Cross library

Memorable Quotes:

1. What she missed was the way life had felt when she’d first started to talking to Trevor. When she had someone to think about if she couldn’t sleep at night, someone’s name to doodle dorkily inside her notebooks. – page 68

2. The library at Dover had always been her escape and Luce felt almost overwhelmed with relief as she realized that this one might offer her the same sense of sanctuary. – Luce page 74

3. I came here to get away, if you’re not going to leave, I will. – Daniel page 80

Summary:

Luce makes it through her first day at Sword & Cross, but not without some serious mishaps. She is exhausted and finally making the trip to her dorm room, which surprisingly isn’t so bad in her opinion. It’s the greatest conditions, but based on the rest of the school her room is pretty decent. Luce doesn’t take the time to unpack, she is supposed to meet Arraine at her room, but after her stunt at lunch she had to do a makeup review for biology. While standing at Arriane’s door, Roland comes out into the hallway to greet Luce. She is feels a bit awkward and nervous because Roland is like Daniel’s best friend, so she is not sure how to act. She quickly tries to make up a story about needing to check out a book at the library, where Roland sees right through her fibbing…but still suggests an interesting section of the library to check out.

Questions for consideration:

1. Is Luce finally showing a little bit of acceptance of her new school when she finally sees her room, and maybe a little hope? Or is it more resignation to the fact that she is struck and she might as well deal with?

2. What do you think about the character Roland? Can he be trusted, and what role will he play in Luce’s life?

3. Once again, Luce meets Daniel and is treated rudely? Why don’t you think she takes a hint, why is she so confident, so drawn to break down Daniel’s walls? At this point in the story, why do you think Daniel is acting this way…is that his ‘real’ personality or an act? (from the first time reader POV)

“Another one bites the dust on ‘True Blood?’”

by Bry Schulz at Zoiks Online

The news has dropped that actress Carrie Preston will be joining the cast of CBS’s “The Good Wife” for a multi-episode arc. Preston has been on the popular HBO show “True Blood” for the past two seasons as Arlene. The casting news has a lot of people worried for the fate of Preston’s “True Blood” character on the show.

Does this mean she’ll be the next to fall prey to those sexy vamps? A “True Blood” insider says not to worry: “Arlene isn’t a major presence in the third book,” notes the source. “A lot of the action takes place outside of Bon Temps, so [Carrie] probably had some free time on her hands.” – ew.com

Here at Tube Talk, we don’t just limit ourselves to mingling with the cast of our fave shows. Oh no! We’re also not averse to hanging out with those behind the scenes. Enter Jennifer Bryan, costume designer – and friend to the stars – for The Vampire Diaries, who we caught up with to get some teasers on the rest of the season. She’s not all bonnets and scarves, you know – read on for some juicy spoilers!

How much do you know about future storylines? “Right now I’m prepping episode 18 which takes us back to 1864 and there’s some very interesting things developing… I have to be kept in the loop because we’re shooting three or four episodes ahead of what’s aired. They don’t give me too much information though – sometimes I get surprised!”

Syfy’s Sanctuary starts production on season three

via Sci Fi Wire
Photobucket
We told you back in December that Syfy had picked up Sanctuary for a third season with a 20-episode order that would begin airing in the fall, so you’ve probably been wondering when the cast and crew would start shooting that third season. The answer is—now!

Season three picks up from the adrenaline-fueled action of season two, which raised the stakes for the brilliant scientist Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and her team, who use their unique combination of instinct, medicine and cutting-edge science and technology to find and aid a clandestine population of beings that the world refuses to believe exist. Sanctuary also stars Robin Dunne as forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman, Agam Darshi as the quick-witted Kate Freelander, Ryan Robbins as tech wiz Henry Foss and Christopher Heyerdahl as the sinister John Druitt.

What are you hoping to see in Season 3 of True Blood? Are you looking forward to new Sanctuary?

After the last episode’s disappointing monster no-show, Sanctuary gives us a bona fide battle of the abnormals, pitting the normally docile vampire squid against the vicious sea scorpion. Which critter will come out on top?

Admittedly, I was prepared to dislike this episode on principle. “Next Tuesday” (without the words “See You” in front of it) has always been teased as Magnus and Will getting stranded somewhere and having a potentially fatal encounter with an abnormal. Sound familiar? It should if you’ve seen the first season episodes “Kush” (in which Magnus and Will crash in the Himalayas and have to survive a killer abnormal) and “Requiem” (wherein Magnus and Will are stuck in a submarine while Magnus suffers a deadly parasitic infection). Does Sanctuary not pay their other actors enough?

Godzilla vs. Mothra anyone? This monster battle surely bring this to mind.

Sci-fi series finds Sanctuary on TV

www.canada.com: Riese, the heroine of the online sci-fi thriller series that bears her name, kicks ass and take names.

The evil occupiers of her nation of Elysia, have cast her out as prey. She’s intense and, if her producers get their way, she’s eager to jump from the Internet to the TV screens of hordes of sci-fi steampunk fantasy fans around the world.

Riese’s cliffhanging series debut hit the web Nov. 2, and has since been seen by more than 40,000 visitors at Riesetheseries.com. The second episode aired Monday (Nov. 16).

In a tight broadcast economy, and without an established brand or comic-book hero to lure longtime fans, sci-fi producers are eyeing the Internet to launch their shows, with an eventual landing to TV screens.

But the path can be brutal. It’s fraught with challenges and some regret for the people behind Sanctuary, the most successful made-in-Vancouver web to TV crossover so far.

“I would definitely recommend going online with a series, but not the way we did it,” says Amanda Tapping, the lead actor and executive producer of the multiple-Gemini-nominated Sanctuary, which debuted its second season in September.

Alexander Skarsgard Denies Romancing Kate Bosworth; Says Expect More Nudity & Sex On True Blood

www.radaronline.com: Relax ladies, Alexander Skarsgard is still on the market. At Wednesday night’s GQ Men of the Year party at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood, the True Blood star told RadarOnline.com exclusively that he and Kate Bosworth are just friends.

“I’m not dating anyone, those are just rumors,” he laughed. When asked if there were any special women in his life, the hunky actor replied “my mom and my sister.”

Skarsgard was one of the night’s special guests; he was honored as one of the “Men Who Saved HBO”.

For the record, Kate also attended Wednesday night’s party but avoided the red carpet, sneaking quietly into the hotel instead.

Skarsgard, 33, who plays brooding vampire Eric Northman on the HBO hit series True Blood, will begin shooting season three along with the rest of the cast later this month. The actor told RadarOnline.com that fans can expect a lot more from Eric this time around.

The Vampire Diaries‘ Jasmine Guy and Katerina Graham Discuss Spoilers, Dance and Prince Proteges

www.movieline.com:Vampires may hog the zeitgeist at the moment thanks to the fanaticism for Twilight and True Blood, but two cast members of the immensely popular CW hit drama The Vampire Diaries bring allure to the age-old TV favorite of witchcraft. Jasmine Guy, who thrilled us for six seasons as fussy southerner Whitley Gilbert-Wayne on A Different World and two seasons on Showtime’s underrated Dead Like Me, and newcomer Katerina Graham play a grandmother and granddaughter connected by their eerie abilities. Movieline caught up with the duo to discuss Vampire Diaries’s Atlanta HQ, how viewers can survive during the show’s hiatus, and the parts in the upcoming Soul Train movie that they’re willing to take.

The fans for this show are zealous! How does relating to the fans this time feel different than on your previous work? Let’s begin with Jasmine.
JG: I would think Vampire Diaries had a slightly younger demographic than the last thing I did, which was Dead Like Me, and that was more a sci-fi audience of mixed ages. And this is a little bit more an age of romance, the early 20s — when you still believe in [lowers voice] love and blood.

KG: The demographic is different than Dead Like Me, but I think it translates to an older audience as well. I’ve gotten fan letters from 50-year-old women with 9-year-old girls, to older women and older men.

JG: That’s ‘cuz y’all are so hot.

KG: [Laughs.]

JG: If anything, this is the most beautiful cast I’ve ever worked with.

KG: Aww!

JG: I saw y’all had a picture in the office. I said, “What’s that for? A photo shoot?” And they said, “No, that’s the cast.”

KG: [Laughs] That is funny.

Learn Sign Language from Sanctuary’s Creature from the Black Lagoon

Bigfoot, a werewolf, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon walk into an episode of Sanctuary, and what do they do? Mostly, they trade sign language, perform mundane medical procedures, and wait for the episode’s true villain to emerge.

I’m not sure what I could have hoped for from this classic monster match-up — certainly not a cage match, but maybe abnormals playing poker? Alas, Sanctuary has not time for such frivolities. Our rubber-suited movie monster is Jack, a creature called a Plesky who has been living in captivity with werewolf Henry’s pal Rachel. Rachel has been socializing Jack and teaching him sign language; he’s basically like Koko the gorilla if Koko occasionally shot out deadly spores. Yes, Jack has shot his deadly, deadly spores into Rachel, who will die if Magnus and her team can’t find a cure.

We review the 2009 sci-fi pilots you’ll never see

Just before every fall TV season begins, the excitement of new possibilities swirls through the air as we anticipate what new shows are in our future. That excitement fades once we realize that only a couple of shows are actually worthy and is dashed once we see promising shows like Eastwick and Dollhouse killed off.

So now that the cancellations have begun, let’s take a look at the season that might have been. Here are four pilots the networks passed on, with our take on whether they missed an opportunity to unleash something great (or even just mildly entertaining) on viewers:

Back, CBS
Boldy Going Nowhere, Fox
Captain Cook’s Extraordinary Atlas, ABC
No Heroics, ABC

12 Sci-Fi Shows That Were Canceled Too Soon

Joss Whedon has become something of a tortured artist since ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ ended its highly successful seven-season run in 2003. Since Sunnydale was destroyed and ‘Angel’ got pulled right when it was finding its own identity post-’Buffy,’ Whedon has yet to find another long-running hit. It’s still hard to believe that a show as great as ‘Firefly’ only lasted one season!

Whedon’s bad luck continues with the recent announcement that Fox is pulling the plug on ‘Dollhouse,’ a series that had enough of a following — and potential — to warrant another season. Would ‘Dollhouse’ have really hit its stride further down the road? We’ll never know. Here are some other sci-fi television series that met their makers too soon.

‘Angel’
‘Bionic Woman’
‘Birds of Prey’
‘Brimstone’
‘Firefly’
‘Invasion’
‘Jericho’
‘The Lone Gunmen’
‘Millennium’
‘Star Trek: TOS’
‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’
‘Tru Calling’

Some of the Sci-Fi Pilots – it’s a shame we won’t ever see them. A few of them don’t sound that bad.

As for the shows that were canceled too soon, I at least agree with Angel, Firefly, Bionic Woman and Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Which pilots do you think would have been good shows?

And which of the canceled shows were your faves?
