Sucking the Quileute Dry
ALL the world, it seems, has been bitten by “Twilight.” Conservative estimates place revenue generated from Stephenie Meyer’s vampire chronicles — the books, movies and merchandise — in the billion-dollar range. Scarcely mentioned, however, is the effect that “Twilight” has had on the tiny Quileute Nation, situated on a postage stamp of a reservation, just one square mile, in remote La Push, Wash.
To millions of “Twilight” fans, the Quileute are Indians whose (fictional) ancient treaty transforms young males of the tribe into vampire-fighting wolves. To the nearly 700 remaining Quileute Indians, “Twilight” is the reason they are suddenly drawing extraordinary attention from the outside — while they themselves remain largely excluded from the vampire series’ vast commercial empire.
Just last month, MSN.com issued an apology to the Quileute for intruding on its territory while videotaping a “Twilight” virtual tour in September. MSN.com sought permission from the Chamber of Commerce in nearby Forks, Wash., but didn’t pay the same courtesy to the Quileute. The video team trespassed onto a reservation cemetery and taped Quileute graves, including those of esteemed tribal leaders. These images were then set to macabre music and, in November, posted on MSN.com. The tribe quickly persuaded MSN.com to remove the Quileute images. MORE HERE
Burger King to return with ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ endorsement after ‘New Moon’

It was hard to miss the fact that Burger King was heavily endorsed by The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Not only did the company’s products appear in the film itself, but they also sponsored a fandom-wide series of contests for BK crowns and giftcards. Not to mention, the company hosted New Moon goodies at their various franchises throughout the months surrounding and during the film’s release. You can see more of their New Moon goodies at their site here.
Well, it seems that Burger King hasn’t made plans to stop its involvement with the Twilight saga any time soon. They’ll be back for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse indeed.
According to Advertising Age, the company has signed on to promote itself through Eclipse, “for what is now being called the ‘female superfan.’”
If yesterday’s story about the Twilight fan effect upon the Volvo car industry is any indication, they may just be onto something.
Apparently, BK’s Eclipse plans have something to do with “a gaming promotion.”
Going back to New Moon, you might remember that in the books, Bella and Jessica (portrayed by Vanity Fair new Hollywood headliners Kristen Stewart and Anna Kendrick in the films) are headed to McDonald’s when she happens upon the familiar strangers that cause her initial adrenaline rush. So, for Burger King to snap up that exclusivity in promotion is very smart.
Anna Kendrick Talks About Her And Jessica’s Future After ‘Eclipse‘
It’s no new news that Anna Kendrick had mostly slipped under the radar in Hollywood for nearly half her adult life. Before she stole all her scenes in both “Twilight” and “New Moon” and garnered an Oscar nomination for her role in “Up in the Air,” Anna was the third youngest Tony nominee ever and made a name for her quirky humor in “Rocket Science.”
But it’s what’s going on after her success that is what is interesting. Jason Reitman wrote the role of Natalie specifically for Anna in “Up in the Air” and, though she still auditioned for the role, it really was hers to start with. She admitted in a new interview with Reuters that she’s been too caught up in “Up in the Air” and awards season to focus on work, but she is still deservedly receiving some A-list job opportunities.
Last summer, Anna was offered a role in an untitled Seth Rogen and James McAvoy comedy for Mandate Pictures, which starts shooting later this month. Mandate gave her the part without even an audition. MORE HERE
I really feel bad for the Quileute tribe in Washington. Unnecessary attention is being thrust upon these innocent people without significant cause. These people have been exploited and aren’t even asked permission or getting any money for the trouble they have been through since the Twilight Saga became so widespread. At least if people are going to trespass on their property, I think the courteous thing to do is ask first.
I am so proud of Anna Kendrick and where her life has been going since ‘Twilight’. I think it is very difficult to get out there and she came from such a small role and now look at her. I can’t wait to see her more in future films.

TWILIGHT SAGA NEWS JANUARY 11TH
Author: kpic724 | Filed under: Book News, Interviews, Movie News, News Blog, TV Show News‘Twilight: Eclipse’s’ Peter Facinelli: Carlisle is ’such a calming force’
Peter Facinelli was at the Television Critics Association press tour for the “Nurse Jackie” panel — but of course, “Twilight: Eclipse” came up.
Facinelli was asked about his crazy schedule and let us all in on how he’d been filming both “Eclipse” and “Nurse Jackie” at the same time.
I actually enjoyed it because I enjoy what I do. So when I show up for work, it’s very invigorating, and I get energized by it. So there were times where I’d get off an airplane from a red-eye and have, like, three hours’ sleep and then go straight to work. But again, I’m having such a good time on the show, and the actors are so phenomenal. For me, as soon as I get on the set, I have so much energy.
Facinelli went on to contrast his “Twilight” saga character of Dr. Carlisle Cullen with his “Nurse Jackie” character of Dr. Fitch Cooper.
And it was actually really fun for me to do such contrasting roles because Carlisle is so – he’s such a calming force, and he’s a rock, and he’s a foundation of this family. And Coop is none of that. He’s – I mean, he runs around like he’s had four cans of Red Bull. So to be able to do those two contrasting roles where, in one character, I’m very still and the other one he’s very energized was a lot of fun for me.
“Twilight: Eclipse” hits theaters June 30, 2010 and “Nurse Jackie” should return with its second season on Showtime sometime in Summer 2010.
Quileute to receive apology for MSN.com’s ‘Twilight’ video
LAPUSH — MSN.com is set to offer a public apology to the Quileute tribe today for a video shot on Stephenie Meyer Weekend in September that showed unapproved filming on the reservation — including scenes of the cemetery and graves, said tribal spokeswoman Jackie Jacobs.
Jacobs said she was first alerted to the video on Nov. 12 — just two days before she and tribal council members left for the Los Angeles premiere of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”
“It was such a bittersweet trip because I found out just two days before, and I knew I would be going to this huge celebration and would have to sit down and tell the council about it,” Jacobs said.
“I couldn’t really reiterate verbally or adequately convey what those images were like.”
The film crew shot images of the Tribal Council building, totem poles, First Beach, the Senior Center and the Quileute Cemetery.
The film was set to dark music — described by Jacobs as “macabre” — and was filmed in an amateur documentary style. MORE HERE
‘Twilight: Eclipse’s’ Taylor Lautner confirmed for Golden Globes
There’s a good moon rising over Hollywood on Sunday, Jan. 17 — “Twilight’s” Taylor Lautner is presenting at the Golden Globes.
Lautner will join Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Josh Brolin, Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, Amy Poehler, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Kate Winslet and many others as presenters at the 67th annual Golden Globes.
Lautner recently won Breakout Movie Actor at the People’s Choice Awards and may end up as the biggest star to come out of the “Twilight” series when all is said and done.
There is no word yet on whether Lautner’s “Twilight” co-stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson will be appearing at the Golden Globes. It’s weird to see them not presenting as a trio, which so far has been par for the course for awards shows.
The Golden Globes air live on NBC Sunday, Jan. 17 beginning at 8 p.m. EST.
Internet Kills Taylor Lautner in Latest Death Hoax
This is just dead wrong.
In a career milestone achieved by only a select few (and Jaleel White), Twilight Saga star Taylor Lautner has become the victim of his very own Internet death hoax.
Take that, Robert Pattinson.
No, Lautner’s not really dead. A rep for Summit Entertainment tells E! News, “I am almost 100-percent positive this is a hoax.” (After double-checking with the home office in Hollywood, the rep confirmed this was indeed a hoax.)
Besides, unless our favorite werewolf doubles as a zombie, he’ll be presenting in the flesh at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, organizers announced today.
But it’s kind of an Interweb honor…
It wasn’t that long ago the onetime Sharkboy was fighting to keep his New Moon role, and now he’s a chiseled cinema stud who will soon be starring with (fellow death hoax victim) Tom Cruise. And that can only mean one thing: Some knucklehead had to go and claim Lautner’s gone to that great wolf pack in the sky.
At least they gave him a unique demise. Unlike many others, Lautner didn’t “die” at the hands of an infamous New Zealand cliff. Some so-called reports accused the 17-year-old of a cocaine overdose.
It’s not so bad. Joining such undead luminaries as Matt Damon, Tom Hanks, Miley Cyrus and even Twilight scribe Stephenie Meyer, Lautner can count himself in elite company.
That is, if he doesn’t get too hung up on Jeff Goldblum, Sinbad and Urkel being there, too.
Twilight Producer Speculates on Fall Shoot and CGI Baby for Breaking Dawn, Says Chris Weitz Unlikely to Direct
I’ve got to say, perhaps the best thing about Summit’s relentless commitment to making Twilight films is that the whole process is going to rush us towards an adaptation of the utterly crazy finale Breaking Dawn in record time. That means two things. One, we’ll get to see the utterly crazy Breaking Dawn on screen, and that’ll hopefully be good for some fun. And two, the whole thing will be over quick; no drawing it out like Warner Bros. did with Harry Potter.
Summit is currently looking at a fall shoot for Breaking Dawn, and while producer Wyck Godfrey doesn’t know if the book will spawn one film or two, he does have some other notes about what we can expect.
The LA Times has an interview with Godfrey, in which he discusses some of the hurdles facing Summit with respect to Breaking Dawn. He notes that all three principal actors (Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner) are signed for the film, and that Melissa Rosenberg is currently working on the script. Whether it will end up as one film or two is a point on which he’s coy, but rest assured that if they can finagle two films out of it (star schedules and paydays included) it will be done. MORE HERE
I totally agree that Peter Facinelli is a ‘calming force’. Any interview that is given I have seen him really take charge of the ‘Father’ role of the Twilight Saga. He seems really down to earth and super cool. I wish more celebrities would take from his amazing attitude!
I’m really starting to get tired of all the death hoaxes. These people are making a mockery of the news business. And heaven forbid someone’s family member sees that on the news and is devastated at the expense of the ‘joke’. I think they need to get a life.
On a high note! I can’t wait until Breaking Dawn is finalized, I hope they take the time though to think through all the details of the book for the fans so that it is true to the story instead of being rushed. We Twilight fans can be patient (sort of).

‘New Moon’ fan event planned on November 11th in the United Kingdom
The Twilight Saga: New Moon’s official premiere will take place on November 16th in Los Angeles, there will still be a fan event in the U.K. for the release of the film. According to that confirmation, details are still developing, but what is known is that the event will take place on November 11th “with cast” as organized by E1 Entertainment.
Several castmates of ‘New Moon’ are from the United Kingdom, including Robert Pattinson, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Michael Sheen, so (and this is of course simply speculation) maybe one or more of them will be in attendance!

‘TWILIGHT’ FANS FLOCK TO FORKS
Author: Emily-June | Filed under: Events/Appearances News, News Blogby Paige Dickerson on peninsuladailynews.com
Edward would have sparkled Saturday.
Despite its reputation as the rainiest place in the 48 states, Forks was bright and sunny on the first day of Stephenie Meyer Weekend, pleasing those among the 1,200 Twilight fans who wore shirts proclaiming “Rain, rain, go away. I want Edward to sparkle today.”
Forks’ rain, overcast skies and imagined gloom prompted Arizona author Stephenie Meyer to make the town her setting for her four-novel sage of vampires and forbidden teen love.
She thought it the best place to house Edward Cullen and his vampire family in her bestselling books. In her novels, vampires fear the sun, not because it will kill them as other legends have it, but because sunshine makes their skin sparkle like diamonds, revealing that they are not human.
Saturday’s bright weather prompted the isolation-loving vampires to hide, said the tour directors and staff at the Forks Visitor Center.
Visitors checked out hot spots mentioned in Meyer’s books – Forks Community Hospital, Forks High School and a couple of houses said to represent the fictional ones in the Twilight saga.
“Everything is going so well,” said Marcia Bingham, executive director of the Forks Chamber of Commerce.
Last year’s event drew about 1,000 people and on Saturday Bingham estimated about 1,200 people.
Birthday celebration: She expected more to arrive today for Bella’s birthday celebration – set on the date of the fictional heroine’s birthday in the books. The cake will be cut at 1:15 p.m. in Tillicum Park.
The day wrapped up with a bonfire at First Beach in LaPush, with storytelling by Quileute elder Chris Morganroth and an appearance by ‘New Moon’ actress Tinsel Korey.

Sadly Stephenie Meyer wasn’t there. But it seems the fans had their fun. If you are a fan of ‘Twilight’, did you also celebrate Bellas birthday? Do you want to go to Forks to visit the hot spots from the books?

TEAM QUILEUTE? HERE ARE YOUR WEREWOLF SHOES!
Author: Emily-June | Filed under: Movie News, News BlogYou are ‘Team Jacob’ – ‘Team Werewolves’ – ‘Team Quileute’? So you should check out the creations of Bob Basset.
Well, for you pro-werewolf fans, here are your shoes: as seen in the ‘NYTimes Magazine’s’. Now they are on the market – the werewolf shoes! Shoes with giant werewolf claws extending from them.
“For those who run with wolves, Bob Basset, an artist from Kharkov, Ukraine, has created a tantalizing prototype. In addition to their conspicuous claws, his ”leather paw shoes” have foot pads on the underside (digital, metatarsal and tarsus) so wearers can feel lycanthropic to their very soles.”
Does anyone out there love Jacob that much? Are there any readers who might even consider being seen in these the night ‘New Moon’ releases? If so, please reveal yourselves!
Get the whole story on BeliefNet

I am really amused and curious – if I’d be Team Jacob I maybe would get this pair of shoes. Are they comfortable?
