Comic Con 2010: ‘Resident Evil: Afterlife’ Panel Opens Discussion for Fifth Movie
via Ace Show Biz

“Resident Evil: Afterlife” took part in 2010 San Diego Comic Con on Saturday, July 24 and brought the stars, Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller, and director Paul W.S. Anderson to the panel. It was kicked off with the screening of the previously seen trailer, but this time it was shown in 3-D.
After some discussions, they presented a clip which picks up a scene briefly seen in the trailer. The clip features the fight between Alice, Claire and The Executioner from the Resident Evil 5 video game.

Simon Pegg’s “Paul” Trailer Has Leaked
via Worst Previews

During the San Diego Comic-Con, the trailer for “Paul” sci-fi movie, starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jason Bateman and Sigourney Weaver, was shown to audiences. We now have that trailer for you. Unfortunately, it is a terrible bootleg version.
Plot: The film revolves around two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever. For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base.

Vampire Bible: Will Smith and The Legend of Cain
By Joseph Laycock at Religion Dispatches

On July 16 it was announced that Will Smith has agreed to play the titular character in The Legend of Cain. The story of Cain, the son of Adam and Eve who murdered his brother Abel, comes from the Hebrew Bible, though Cain also appears in the New Testament, the Qur’an (where he is called Qabil), and in numerous stories and legends throughout Western culture. Smith’s new project brings an added twist, however: Cain was a vampire.
Although no director or studio has yet been connected to Cain, the idea has created quite a stir on the Internet. Already some Christians have objected that writing vampires into the Bible is sacrilege, while others assert that the story plagiarizes White Wolf games. White Wolf, which produced the popular role-playing game Vampire: the Masquerade, first imagined ‘Caine’ as the original vampire in 1991. (In 2003, White Wolf sued Sony Pictures over the film Underworld, which also appeared to borrow some of their ideas about vampires and werewolves.) However, the connection between vampires and the Bible—if not Cain directly—has a much older history.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost On Set Interview PAUL
When director Greg Mottola’s Paul was filming in New Mexico last August, I was invited – along with a few other online journalists – to visit the set and watch some filming. With Paul written by and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I’ll admit to being incredibly happy to be there since Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are two of my favorite films from the last decade. If you’re one of our few readers who hasn’t seen those movies, I need you to stop what you’re doing and buy them. Trust me, once you watch them both, you’ll understand when geekdom loves Pegg and Frost.
Even though both actors were busy on the set of Paul, we managed to get some time with them in the afternoon. They talked about making their first “American” movie, where the idea of Paul came from, how they were adapting to working with a CGI creature as a main character, working without Edgar Wright, and so much more. If you’re a fan of Pegg and Frost, you’re going to love the interview.
Ryan Reynolds is looking fiercely yummy. He has renewed my interest in that movie, lol!

OBS SPEAKS OUT: A TWI/TOUR FROM THE INSIDE
Author: Dahlia McAvoy | Filed under: News Blog, OBS Speaks OutOBS SO contributor, Bri, tells us exclusively what it was like at the New Jersey Twilight Convention.
Checking in at the Parsippany, NJ Hilton was surreal. Every other person was wearing something Twilight related and I felt like I had found “my people.” My friend, K, and I brought our bags up to the room and quickly descended to register at the table since we were Gold Ticket Pass holders and were allowed to do everything first before the other attendees.
There were banners and posters galore telling us that we had officially entered the Twifandom. I have to admit, K and I squee’d like junior high school girls. With our Gold Passes secured around our necks with lanyards, we entered the vendor room. It was the only room open that early in the morning so we began to look around at all the merchandise that was available.

That’s when we noticed we had company. Directly behind us was The Hillywood Show. Since there were so few of us there that early, we immediately got in the short line to get their autographs and have our picture taken with the cute fake-sters. The Hillywood Show is a small production company featuring Hannah and Hilly Hindi. Hannah (Alice) directs all of the Show’s spoofs and they and their friends act out the appropriate parts. Hannah was extremely pleasant to talk to and was more than happy to tell us about the show and ask that we tell people about their website.
We wound up at a merch table for WeBook Apparel that is co-run by Fanfiction diva, Tex_belle. She was extremely friendly and just generally excited to be there. We talked fic for a while and I was very impressed by her drive, ambition, and intensity for all things Twilight. Her beta, Tigress5cubs, is a very intelligent woman and a successful lawyer and I am proud that people like her exist in the fandom.

Friday was day one and it included Q&A sessions and autographs with Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight’s director) and Gil Birmingham (Billy Black). They both had incredible insight and knowledge about the world they helped to create. Catherine studied architecture in college and said that it helped her in her quest to be a director because it is all about problem solving. You must build something to legal specifications that is also beautiful and artistic and she said that describes directing to a tee.
Gil was very articulate and made it known that he was extremely proud to play the role of Billy Black for two reasons in particular: one, he was able to play a Native American in a contemporary role that did not involve poverty or reservations so that we could see how modern American Indians are “just like everyone else”, and two, he sat in Billy’s wheelchair with honor, saying that you don’t realize how lucky you are to be able to go where you want to go when you want to go there until you are at the mercy of a wheelchair.

Day two involved Q&A and autograph sessions with Edi Gathegi (Laurent), and the wolfpack boys, Kiowa Gordon (Embry Call), Alex Meraz (Paul), and Chaske Spencer (Sam Uley). The best part of seeing our boys up there on that stage was to truly realize that they are just human beings like the rest of us. They laughed together, joked together, and even razzed each other. The stars we know and love have become a family and it all started with a beautiful novel by Stephenie Meyer.
The Vampire Ball was the second night of the convention and all I will say is *swoon* for a hug from Gil Birmingham and a hug AND a kiss on the temple from Alex Meraz. All of my old and new Twifriends were dressed to the nines and we partied with the abandon of normal humans that would soon go back to the daily grind.
All in all, it was a fantastic time and I highly recommend it to anyone who has the good fortune to find themselves in the general vicinity of a convention.
There are so many more details that are saved up in my heart and will be featured on my personal twi-blog, along with a few incriminating photos, but I don’t want the readers to get sick of my words. You can find my blog here.
We would like to thank Bri for sharing her experience at the Twi/Tour with us here at OBS. What do you think of all these exciting events that Summit and Creation are bringing us fans? Will you be attending any upcoming Tours or events?

‘NEW MOON’ ACTOR WENT TOO FAR WITH KRISTEN STEWART
Author: Staar84 | Filed under: Movie News, News Blogfrom Amy Wilkinson at mtv.com
“I decided, all right, the Wolf Pack stay up all night looking for who’s killing people on the res, so we don’t sleep very much. So I thought it would be a great idea if I stayed up for 10 days straight.” What should have been a simple scene — a confrontation between Bella (Stewart) and the Wolf Pack — became, in Meraz’s mind, his “Brando moment.” Wanting to try something different, the actor played the scene overly aggressive: screaming, grabbing Stewart by the throat, hurtling his line at her.
“[Director] Chris Weitz comes off-set like, ‘Yeah, I like the energy Alex, but just take it down a little,’ ” Spencer chimed in: “Meanwhile the producers are freaking out back there.”
Things get even more heated for Meraz when he phases into a wolf. For “New Moon,” Weitz told the actors to envision the phasing sequences as a “pop like popcorn,” which meant the actors only had to do a little shake before CGI took over from there. For the novel’s wolf mind-reading sequences, the trio said it would be portrayed on film through quick glances. “With real wolves, that’s actually how it’s done,” Meraz said. “The alpha male does things just with its eyes.”

Wow, it sounds like they cast Paul well! It should be interesting to see in November. I like that you’ll be able to see the pack’s mind reading, but it will still be subtle.
What do you think about the way he tried to get into character with Kristen? How do you think the “popping” will translate on screen?
