VAMPIRE DIARIES SCOOP
Yesterday, we gave you a delicious sneak peek into what’s going to happen when Damon (Ian Somerhalder) finds out it wasn’t Elena (Nina Dobrev) who he kissed in the season finale of “Vampire Diaries” (let’s just say it won’t be pretty!).
Of course, that was only the start (a pretty juicy one at that!) of our “VD” scoops straight out of Comic-Con 2010. After all, the finale left us with a lot of unanswered questions and high amongst them was whether or not Elena and Katherine would ever come face-to-face.
So, when we sat down with the cast, we made sure to ask … and lucky for us show writer Julie Plec gave us just the answer we were looking for.

WEREWOLVES COMING TO VAMPIRE DIARIES

It may be called The Vampire Diaries, but a new supernatural force is coming to town.
Last season, vampire haters trying to rid Mystic Falls of the undead used a device that caused so much pain, it made it impossible for any vampire to hide their identity. But Tyler Lockwood, Michael Trevino, showed the same reaction to the device, and he wasn’t a vampire. So what caused his unexplainable symptoms?

Top 5 Movies/TV Shows about Fanboys-Erin
1) Spaced: From the very beginning the characters in this British TV show quote Star Wars and re-enact scenes from their favorite movies. It blends so seamlessly into the plot that sometimes you don’t even realize they’re references. One of the special features is an “homage-o-meter” that displays at the bottom of the screen what movie/tv show the scene is a reference to.
2) Fanboys: In 1999, a group of friends decide to drive from Ohio to Skywalker Ranch in California to steal a copy of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 6 months before it hits theaters.
3) The Big Bang Theory: Sheldon wears superhero T-shirts in nearly every episode, they have a comic book night, and Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: TNG), Summer Glau (Firefly, The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Dollhouse), and have Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Gallactica) been guests stars—making all the boys giddy.
4) Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back: The name says it all! Kevin Smith is a huge fanboy himself, and someday Silent Bob will successfully move something with his mind.
5) Futurama: Nearly every episode features a Star Trek reference, Leonard Nemoy was in the pilot, and George Takei has been in 2 episodes. The cast of The Original Series guest-starred together in a tribute episode titled “Where No Fan Has Gone Before”.
Top 5 Efforts to save a TV Show

Futurama: Nearly 11 years after it’s first episode aired, Futurama returns to the air waves. The original airing included 5 seasons (72 episodes total—what a normal show would do in 3-4 seasons). What resurrected the series was great dvd sales and 4 straight to dvd movies that sold in the millions, convincing Fox (who still owns the rights to the show) to commission a new 26 episode season. Luckily, cartoon characters age well.
Chuck: Fans purchased footlong sandwiches from product-placement sponsor Subway and wrote letters to NBC to get Chuck into a third season. Fan’s vigor got them into a fourth season as well.
Firefly: I still say that mishandling is the reason this show was cancelled after one season, and I think fans agree. Record dvd sales convinced Fox (hmm, I’m noticing a pattern here) to let Joss Whedon make the movie Serenity, which gave some closure for the Firefly characters. More details that would have been flushed out in episodes are coming out in comic form because the fanbase is so strong.
FlashForward: Fans staged a 2 minutes, 17 second “blackout” to protest the cancellation of the show outside ABC offices in the US, Canada, and the UK, as well as sending 20,000 friendship bracelets to executives. Unfortunately, the show wasn’t renewed.
The Sarah Connor Chronicles: After two season, Fox (Fox again) canceled the show. Fans rented movable billboards and created the “Save Cameron” campaign. Shockingly, (eh hem, sarcasm) Fox ignored their pleas

TV NEWS FOR JULY 16TH: BEING HUMAN, FUTURAMA FINALE, AND STARGATE UNIVERSE
Author: Staar84 | Filed under: News Blog, TV Show News‘Being Human’: Russell Tovey, Aidan Turner, Lenora Crichlow return as odd trio
By John Crook at Zap2It

Oh, man. Just when you think being a werewolf couldn’t stink any more, it — well — stinks a lot more.
That’s the grim situation confronting George (Russell Tovey) as “Being Human” returns to BBC America for a second season of eight episodes starting Saturday, July 24.
“George is, after all, of the three of them the only one who is alive, since Mitchell (Turner) is a vampire and Annie (Crichlow) is a ghost,” he explains. “He’s the normal Joe, and he really just longs to be average. He wants to be ordinary, and his biggest fear in the first season was killing someone, and also, as another werewolf told him in season one, that he would end up ‘using the wolf to his advantage.’

Brain Slug Cupcakes at Final Futurama Script Reading
Xeni Jardin at boing boing

Glenn Fleishman shares a treat with us:
“I was lucky enough to attend the last scheduled table reading (where a script is read by the voice actors) for Futurama, the animated cartoon show revived twice now after Fox’s broadcast network failed to kill the show. Featured at the reading were piles of delicious brain slug cupcakes. I LOVE THE BRAIN SLUG CUPCAKES, TRY ONE.
The final script is quite hilarious, naturally, and it was a pleasure not just to hear it read in person by the actors, but to watch how much of a family the show is, cast, crew, and their friends and families. That feeling comes through in the show, which was created by Matt Groening and David “X” Cohen, through whose good offices (and my dear friend, his sister) I garnered an invite.”

That Stargate Universe/Stargate Atlantis crossover is GO!
By Scott Edelman at Blastr

In what’s got to be the biggest Stargate-related news of the year, Joseph Mallozzi, executive producer for both Stargate Universe and Stargate Atlantis, announced details about an upcoming crossover between the two series, while at the same time teasing us with a big mystery.
Here’s what Mallozzi had to say:
With word from producer John G. Lenic that the deals have been closed on those Atlantis alums, we can now move forward on the script, secure in the knowledge that both extra-special guest stars will actually be on hand to say the dialogue written specifically for them.

I’m finally able to watch Being Human, it’s on one of the channels I have (not BBC America, but I can’t remember the name). I missed episode one, but it comes out on DVD in the US on Tuesday. I love what I’ve seen, and can’t wait to catch up. I love the Futurama brain slug cupcakes, although the originals look better. But it’s awesome that they even did it.
Are you looking forward to the new season of Being Human? What do you think of the SGU/Atlantis crossover?

Now you don’t have to (although you should, they’re awesome!) here’s the rundown of characters and plot points you’ll need to know June 24th:
WARNING! If you DO plan to watch the episodes and movies, this contains spoilers!
An Insanely Simplified Summary: A delivery boy is cryogenically frozen on December 31st, 1999 and wakes up 1000 years later. He explores the future and the universe while working for Planet Express, an interstellar package delivery company.
Main Characters:

Fry (full name Philip J. Fry) Delivery boy, age 25 at the start of the series (1999). Frozen while on delivery on December 31st, 1999 he wakes up on December 31st, 2999. Works for his Great (x30 ) nephew, Prof. Farnsworth. Is missing Delta Brainwave which makes him impervious to Giant Brains, Brain Spawn, and The Dark Ones. Lack of Delta brainwave caused by becoming his own grandfather after a trip back in time to 1947. Most important person in the universe (has saved universe 3 times to date). Is in love with Leela.

Leela (Turanga Leela, Leela is her surname, but that’s what she goes by): One-eyed mutant, abandoned at orphanarium as a child by parents hoping to give her better life on the surface (mutants are forced to live in the sewers). Pilot of Planet Express Ship, off-and-on love object of Fry and Zapp Brannigan.

Bender (Bender Bending Rodriguez): Beer guzzling, chain smoking robot, works at Planet Express (alcohol powers his fuel cells). Bestfriend and roommate of Fry. Kleptomaniac. Bending Unit #22, serial number 2716057, and chassis number 1729. Sings folk songs when magnets are placed on his head.
Other Lead Characters

Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth: Great nephew of Philip J. Fry (through Fry’s brother, Yancy). Age: 160ish. Crazy inventor, professor at Mars University. Senile. Was thrice romantically involved with Mom (of Mom’s Friendly Robot Co.). Father to Igner, Mom’s youngest (and dumbest) son.

Amy Wong: Intern at Planet Express, student of the Professor’s at Mars University. Extremely klutzy. Has the same blood type as the Professor. Daughter of Inez and Leo Wong, who own the entire western hemisphere of Mars. Played mini golf as a child. Fonfon Rubok (equivalent of Earth marriage) of Lt. Kif Kroker.

Dr. John A. Zoidberg: Decapodian, doctor at Planet Express. Hideously poor. Once ate Earthican flag. Regularly eats garbage. Has a famous comedian/silent-movie star uncle, Harold Zoid. Was the alien captured at the UFO Roswell crash in 1947.

Hermes Conrad (at left): Jamaican accountant and Bureaucrat Grade #37 (although he says Grade #34 in a movie—the promotion was never mentioned). Works at Planet Express. Was once an Olympic limboer. Married to LaBarbara, has one son, Dwight. Hates Dr. Zoidberg.

Zapp Brannigan (Captain/General Webelo) : Captain of The Nimbus. Member of the Democratic Order of Planets (DOOP). Considers himself a lady’s man, but is generally repugnant to women; often pronounces word incorrectly.

Lieutenant Kif Kroker: First Officer to Zapp Brannigan. Fonfon Rubok of Amy Wong. Was accidently killed by Zapp when trying to launch a missile. Was brought back to life by Yevo; events following his death but preceding his resurrection caused trouble in his marriage to Amy (she slept with Zapp). Has no bones, but is supported by a system of fluid-filled bladders.

Nibbler: Member of Nibblonian High Council, assigned originally to Vergon 6, then to Earth. Pet to Leela. Watches over Fry. Has spoken in front of the Planet Express Crew before three times, forgot to wipe their memories the last time. Can eat very large animals in a single gulp.
Secondary Characters

Mom: CEO of Mom’s Friendly Robot Company/MomCorp, and various other “Friendly” companies. Evil genius. Was romantically entangled with Prof. Farnsworth and his rival, Ogden Wernstrom. Has three sons, Walt, Larry, and Inger, who she regularly slaps.

Cubert Farnsworth: The Professor’s clone, whose DNA was scraped from a growth on the Professor’s back. Aged 12-ish, enjoys Dungeons and Dragons.

Scruffy, the Janitor: janitor of Planet Express. Owns 40,000 shares of Planet Express Stock. Waxes philosophic.

The Harlem Globetrotters: They now occupy their own planet, and are known for their excellent dunking ability and mad mathematic skills.

The Omicronians: A race of Aliens that inhabit the Planet Omicron-Persei 8, which is 1000 light years from Earth. Invade Earth on a regular basis. Leaders are Lrrr, and his wife Ndnd.

Heads in Jars: The technology to keep human heads (and dogs—specifically Nixon’s dog Checkers) was invented by Ron Popeil. Celebrities seem very fond of doing this, as do US Presidents.
This should be enough to get you started. Enjoy the new episodes!
