19 upcoming superhero movies you need to know about
By Jon Cohen at Blastr

Ever since Spider-Man came out in 2002 and set all kinds of records for making money, the movie industry has gone crazy for superheros. Eight years on, they just keep on coming. We’ve had some great ones (Iron Man, The Dark Knight) along with some not-so-good ones (Wolverine, Fantastic Four).
Over the next three years we’re going to have the chance to see more than a dozen superhero films, mostly from Marvel and DC, but also a few others. To help keep track of it all we’ve created this handy guide to the 19 most notable titles that are supposed to come out (some more tentatively than others) through 2013.
Title: Ant-Man
Who’s involved: Edgar Wright is directing and Joe Cornish is writing the screenplay
What it is: Adaptation of the Marvel comic
Notes: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is proof that Wright is capable of making a solid film. The real question is, is he capable of making a film that people will actually go see? Ant-Man also isn’t the first character who leaps to mind when we think “We want to see a movie about a superhero!” But, conversely, that’s actually why we’re interested in it.
Release Date: Tentatively 2012

‘Inception’, ‘Twilight’ and ‘True Blood’ face off at Spike TV’s Scream Awards
by Adam Markovitz

Think the Oscars are a little too touchy-feely? Maybe Spike TV’s Scream Awards (airing Oct. 19) are more your speed: The genre-loving kudofest, now in its fifth year, honors the best and badass-est sci-fi, horror, fantasy and comic book entertainment — basically anything geek-tested and fanboy-approved. And don’t expect winners to thank the Academy; they’ll owe their statues to votes from web surfers like you on the show’s site.
This year’s top nominee is Inception, which leads the pack with 15 nods including Fight Scene of the Year (for that brain-melting zero-g ballet), Best Ensemble, and Ultimate Scream, where it faces stiff competition from the likes of Twilight: Eclipse, True Blood, and Avatar.

I’m a little irritated that Blastr thinks that Scott Pilgrim is Edgar Wright’s first “solid” movie. Hot Fuzz was a legitimate action movie, even if it was a comedy. Hot Fuzz was actually supposed to have more of a comic book feel (including thought bubbles), but he and Simon Pegg cut their originally ideas because it didn’t fit with the main character. I’m not sure how I feel about Chloe Moretz playing Katniss. She’s a good actress, but she’s SO pale, and Katniss is described as a brunette with olive skin. But I guess this is just speculation at the moment, and nothing official.
Who do you think should play Katniss? Which superhero movie are you looking forward to the most? Are you excited for Harry Potter and Voyage of the Dawn Treader?
MOVIE NEWS FOR AUGUST 9: SUPERHERO GENRE ALMOST DEAD, CAMERON FILMING AVATAR SEQUELS BACK TO BACK & MORE
Author: whatategilbertgrape | Filed under: News Blog, TV Show NewsSource: collider
DIRECTOR MATTHEW VAUGHN SAYS SUPERHERO GENRE IS ALMOST DEAD

Director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) doesn’t think there’s much life left in the superhero genre. Set to direct X-Men: First Class, Vaughn told LA Times’ Hero Complex, “It’s been mined to death and in some cases the quality control is not what it’s supposed to be. People are just going to get bored of it.” So why is he doing X-Men?
He says “I’ve always wanted to do a big-budget superhero film and I think we’ve kind of crossed the Rubicon with superhero films. I think [the opportunity to do one], it’s only going to be there two or three more times. Then the genre is going to be dead for a while because the audience has just been pummeled too much.”

JAMES CAMERON FILMING AVATAR SEQUELS BACK TO BACK

James Cameron is taking tips from Harry Potter for Avatar’s sequels.
He’s announced that it’s looking likely that he’ll shoot Avatar 2 and 3 back to back.
MTV grilled Cameron on what fans can expect from the inevitable sequels to the biggest blockbuster ever made, and he managed to confirm a few much-rumoured plot details and his production plans.
“We don’t start the movie until we get the deals worked out,” he admitted, but admitted that Pandora’s oceans will definitely be involved in the eco-friendly sequel and that while he’s not going to press on full steam with anything until the deal is done, he’s busy making notes and drafting out the plot.

EDGAR WRIGHT TURNED DOWN GREEN HORNET AND DRAG ME TO HELL

The new issue of Empire magazine looks into the upcoming “Scott Pilgrim vs The World” movie and its director Edgar Wright. In an interview, Wright revealed some of the projects he was offered after “Shaun of the Dead.”
Sam Raimi approached him to direct “Drag Me To Hell,” which Wright seriously considered. “[But] it was so obviously a Sam Raimi film. I told him as a fan I wanted to see him do it,” he explained.
And it wasn’t the only horror film that he was approached about. Wright said that he was given the chance to remake “The Crazies.” He didn’t feel it was the right project for him, so Breck Eisner stepped in.

MOVIE NEWS JULY 28TH PART 2 ANT-MAN SCRIPT, HQ PHOTOS TRANSFORMERS 3, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE IN I’M MORTAL & THE PUNISHER REBOOT
Author: Dawn | Filed under: Movie News, News BlogEdgar Wright Says His Ant-Man Script Is An Origin Story, Wouldn’t Fit With The Avengers
At the end of the Marvel panel at this year’s Comic Con, Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige had managed to get Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Clark Gregg all on stage to represent the cast of The Avengers, the huge ensemble movie that will finally unite all of Marvel’s solo outings. But while that list contains all of the major players in the film, one hero conspicuously absent was Ant-Man, one of the original members of the series when it began in 1963. Why not include a hero that is such a key component to the team? Apparently Edgar Wright’s script has a lot to do with that.
According to the director, a major part of the script, which has been completed for some time now, is the characters origin story, something they didn’t want to skip by simply planting him in the Whedon supergroup film.
So I snuck onto the set of Transformers 3 (56 HQ photos)

Marvel Planning to Reboot The Punisher… Again?
Is The Punisher about to become the first superhero to be rebooted three times in less than a decade? I guess technically the Hulk has also been rebooted three times now with the confirmation of Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk in The Avengers. However, it still remains to be seen if there will be another Hulk movie with Ruffalo in the lead role. As for Frank Castle, news came out this week that Marvel has recently regained the rights to the character, and they do plan to do something with him… they’re just not saying what it is yet.
During a Marvel Entertainment panel at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, Marvel’s head of production Kevin Feige confirmed the following: “Frank Castle is under the roof of Marvel Studios… and we hope to bring him into the fray shortly.” Lionsgate previously held the rights, but after the failure of the last movie Punisher: War Zone they apparently decided to let the property go. Could this mean there is a new movie in development?
I liked The Punisher. Why must they reboot all these movies? Can’t they come up with any new ideas? I also loved Edward Norton as The Hulk. I’m disappointed in the way they treated him.
Are you liking all the “reboots”?

Teresa Palmer Talks The Sorcerer’s Apprentice!
via Movie Web

Australian actress Teresa Palmer has been generating a lot of buzz in Hollywood for sometime now due in large part to her attachment to two high profile projects that she ended up not participating in. She first gained the attention of fan-boys everywhere when director George Miller cast her as the evil Talia al Ghul, daughter of Batman villain Ra’s al Ghul, in the unmade film, Justice League Of America based on the popular DC Comics’ book. While ultimately that film did not get made, it did put the actress on the map and she next gained attention when rumors began to fly that Miller had cast her in his upcoming forth chapter of the popular Mad Max series, entitled Fury Road. But in an interview that we conducted last month, the actress confessed that she had to back out of that project due to scheduling conflicts with the Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg produced film I Am Number Four, which she will appear in early next year. Now, fans finally have a chance to see the actress shine on the silver screen in the new live-action Disney film The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, opening on July 14th staring Nicolas Cage.
To begin with, you mentioned in an earlier interview that you feel like your character, Becky, is the key to David (Jay Baruchel) unleashing his potential as a sorcerer, can you talk about that idea and how it helped you in the course of making the film?
Teresa Palmer: I really believe that Becky’s the trigger for Dave in terms of him finding his confidence and embracing the sorcerer within.

Harry Potter, Scott Pilgrim, Green Hornet, Thor Among Films Invading Comic Con
by Rebecca Murray at About.com

The schedule for the 2010 Comic Con has been released and once again San Diego will be invaded by Hollywood. Kicking off the annual gathering of comic book lovers and TV/movie fans on Thursday, July 22nd, is DreamWorks Animation with Megamind and voice actors Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Jonah Hill. Disney follows with much-anticipated new footage from Tron: Legacy and appearances by cast members Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Michael Sheen, and Bruce Boxleitner. Lionsgate’s represented with the action pic The Expendables and will have writer/director Sylvester Stallone and actors Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Rand Couture, and Terry Crews on hand to answer questions. And finally, Thursday finishes up with a star-studded panel promoting Scott Pilgrim vs The World.
I wouldn’t say they’re saving the best for last because Thursday and Friday’s offerings are pretty incredible, but Saturday will see Harry Potter finally making an appearance at the Con! This is big news for Muggles who happen to have already bought tickets to the sold-out event. And Warner Bros is bringing cast members from two of their other big releases: Green Lantern and Sucker Punch. Overture will be trying to sink their teeth into vampire fans with footage from Let Me In starring Chloe Moretz and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Screen Gems is bringing Resident Evil: Afterlife and its always popular stars Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter to the Con along with what they promise will be ‘stunning’ 3-D scenes from the film.

Amanda Seyfried To Star In Sci-Fi Thriller ‘I’m.mortal’
By Adam Rosenberg at MTV News

Amanda Seyfried has accomplished a lot so far in her short career, and now she’s angling to stay young forever.
Variety reports that the Variety reports that the “Letters to Juliet” star will lead the cast of Andrew Niccol’s “I’m.mortal,” a sci-fi action thriller set in a world where people stop aging at 25. As was first reported back in April, people in this society treat time as currency; the more of your life’s time you “spend,” the more access you have to various necessities and luxuries.
Today’s Seyfried news is joined by a few more details about the story. A rebellious young man — not yet cast — is fingered for the murder of a member of society’s elite. He ends up on the run with a beautiful rich girl (Seyfried) in tow as his hostage. Regardless of the circumstances that initially bring them together, they end up taking on the system and finding love in the process.

I am so excited for Paul. Pegg and Frost have been blogging about it since filming, and the two of them together are always funny so you just know it’ll be good. I really wish I was going to Comic Con this year. I had planned to, but I just didn’t have the money for tickets and the flight. But there’s next year to look forward to. And the new Harry Potter.
Is anyone going to San Diego Comic Con this year? Which upcoming movie are you looking forward to the most?
