Review:

Well, well, well…a new series by an author new to me and all I have to say is WOW.  I really enjoyed this story.  The way that Ms. Adair describes and depicts her characters is very riveting.  I felt as if I was living in Sugar, Georgia right along with Josephina throughout her trials and tribulations, killer high heels and all.

Josephina (Joie) is a strong woman (though she seems not to know it) who has been devastated by the betrayal of her betrothed (Winston – what a slime is all I have to say!!!).  To add insult to injury, her parents seem to treat her like a child, with no confidence that she can handle her life.   Yet the revenge on her ex was priceless….love all the creative things she did with his VERY expensive golf clubs.  And the car…let us not forget Winston’s car!

Brett McGraw – a truly hot main male character.  Who doesn’t like a successful (golf pro on the circuit), sexy as hell, carefree guy.  Okay…maybe great looking gals looking for a future with their prince charming…but if you are just looking for a great guy for short term excitement, then Brett is your guy.  Or so this is the first impression that Joie has of Brett.  I love the way his character evolves and we get to see he is more than just eye candy.  There is real depth to this man (partially as a result of early childhood tragedy)  and it was great to discover this.

Sunday School Mafia – hilarious bunch of poker playing, busy-body grannies with shot guns, who keep stealing Ulysses!  They certainly added color to the story….They are led by Grandma Hattie – Brett’s grandmother.

The opossum family living in the Fairchild House – loved the way Josephina was compassionate (much to her detriment), and in the end….all creatures were treated fairly.

One scene I found quite entertaining (and a bit naughty 🙂)….showcasing Joie’s “temporary” vibrato:

The door swung open with such force that it must have shattered a wall tile or two. Brett looked up.  The woman he’d been obsessing over was leaning against the door jamb, breathing hard, and her eyes were wild-almost as wild as her golden mass of hair, which hung down to the middle of her back.  Crazy, sexy hair.  “You lost?” he drawled, going for casual and failing miserably.  “What makes you say that?”  “You don’t strike me as the kind of lady to follow men into the john.”  “Maybe I…” she stopped talking and looked around.  Taking in the urinal and condom dispenser, she gasped as if just realizing where she was………

There is hot, steamy sex told in a tasteful manner, which is a must in my book (the tasteful manner part that is).  <<Blush, Blush>>.  And the romantic scenes were just so sweet.

I laughed, I got teary eyed, I empathized…..I really enjoyed!  I certainly recommend this first book of a new series written by Marina Adair.
