steelheart-the-reckoners-brandon-sandersonSynopsis:

There are no heroes.

Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.

Nobody fights the Epics… nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart—the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David’s father. For years, like the Reckoners, David’s been studying, and planning—and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He’s seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge. (Goodreads)

Review:

What a wonderful story, excellent writing making it a thought provoking book. Wow! This is a first book in a series and has none of the issues usually plaguing a first book. NICE!

Gosh, where to start, I loved the story, the characters are well developed as is the world they live in. The prologue pulls you into the story so fast, that you just want to know more and more about what’s going on. The author does a wonderful job at pacing the information so that you stay interested in what’s next the whole way through this story.

There are many really thought provoking ideas weaved throughout as well. Here is one that makes you think, or at least it did me.

“You make us all selfish, I thought at Nightwielder. That’s why I hate you. All of you.”

An interesting concept about why or how we can come to hate something or someone.

I don’t want give away much, by going into the storyline, because it unfolds exactly like it should, perfectly in sync with the writing, characters and surprises you just do not see coming.

I very highly recommend this book for people who enjoy this genre. There is a very slight flavor of the Wild Card series by George R.R. Martin. But stands on it’s own with both storyline and writing style. I hope to see many more stories in this series. Bravo!
