Synopsis:

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is. (Goodreads)

 Review:

Life is changing quickly for Katy. She relocates to West Virginia with her mother after her father’s death.  She knows this will mean starting a new high school for her senior year, new friends and a totally new way of life for the book blogging teenager.  What she never counts on is her new neighbor.

Trying to find the closest grocery store, she knocks on their door and is greeted by the most amazing looking boy she has ever laid eyes on.  The only problem is that when he actually speaks to her, she instantly wants to punch him in his beautiful (and infuriating) face.

Daemon Black instantly seems to hate Katy for reasons that she doesn’t understand.  His twin sister, Dee is his exact opposite.  She is sweet and welcoming and soon becomes Katy’s new best friend.  Katy hates that she can’t seem to shake her attraction to Daemon and he seems to show up out of nowhere to torment her – and save her from danger.  She soon learns that both Dee and Daemon are so much more than different – they are aliens.

I have to say that I seriously loved this book. Katy is both whip smart and strong and that is such a breath of fresh air in the young adult genre right now.  Daemon, on the other hand, is the perfect swoony boy.  He is snarky, maddening and beyond beautiful.  He is such a brilliant combination of yes and no, of “come here – go away” that the reader can’t help but fall for him. Add all of this together with a healthy dose of danger and unresolved sexual tension and you have a recipe for marvelous series.

I must say that I am a huge fan of Armentrout’s work and I was lucky enough to meet her and her cover models, Pepe Toth and Sztella Tziotziosz, on the Orlando stop of her Daemon Invasion Tour (see photo included in this post).  I can confirm that they are just as pretty in person and I even scored an advance reader’s copy of the next book in the Lux series, Onyx. According to the author, she now has plans for a total of five books for this series and I can’t wait to devour them all.
