Avalon High By Meg Cabot

Synopsis:

“I recognized him at once- not just because he was so tall, and there aren’t a lot of guys who are taller than me, but also because he had such a distinctive face. Not handsome really. But attractive. And nice. And strong looking.

The weirdest part was, he seemed to recognize me too, even though he could only have seen me for, like five seconds that day in the park.
“Hey,” he said, smiling, not just with his lips, but with his blue eyes, too.

Just Hey. That’s all. Hey.
But it was a Hey that made my heart flop over inside my chest.’

Avalon High seems like a typical high school, attended by typical students: There’s Lance, the jock. Jennifer, the cheerleader. And Will, senior class president, quarterback, and all-around good guy.

Who is Will Wagner, and how is it that Ellie, the new girl at Avalon High, feels as if she’s known him all her life, when she’s only just met him?

But not everybody at Avalon High is who they appear to be . . . Not even, as new student Ellie is about to discover, herself. What part does she play in the drama that is unfolding? What if the bizarre chain of events and coincidences she has pieced together means –as with the court of King Arthur–tragedy is fast approaching Avalon High?
Worst of all, what if there’s nothing she can do about it?”

Review: I LOVED reading this book so much I finished it the same day I bought it! I just couldn’t put it down. Ellie reminds me of a combination of myself and my best friend Bridget. Somewhat awkward, defiant, smart mouthed, and caring. Ellie is never over the top dramatic and always fun to read. Especially, when she was thinking of Will hehe.

Avalon High is a whole new twist on the world of King Arthur and his Knights. Set in a modern day world full of high school kids and of course, the drama that comes with that world. But beneath the somewhat predictable storyline of new girl who falls for the leading hot superstar of the high school only to find out he has a girlfriend, is a the mythical legend of Arthur. The Knights are football players. And Ellie, Will, Jennifer, and Lance each play a part. As does Marco, Will’s evil step brother.

Ellie gets assigned to do a report on the Lady of Shalott, something she is all too familiar with considering her parents are professors of Medieval Legends. While during the report, Ellie starts to piece together little by little all the weird coincidences that have taken place and gets thrown into a battle as old as King Arthur and his court. She must also decide whether or not to tell Will of the legend and of the secrets his best friend Lance and girlfriend Jennifer are hiding.

The suspense and build up in the book was great. Not too dragged out and not too subtly you’d missed the hints. The characters are very well developed and you can get a sense of each of their personalities, especially of Ellie and Will which I for one was very happy about! The story is filled with wonderful detail, giving a perfect lesson on King Arthur and his legend without making the reader feel as if the subject is being forced.

Author Meg Cabot delivers yet again in Avalon High and gives her many fans a book filled with adventure, romance, and unusual fantasy.

Great read for both girls and boys of any age!
