Sam Kelly had a hot steamy liaison with a beautiful waitress, Sophie, when he was on a mission in Mexico.  The mission went to crap rather quickly, but when he got a tip on their man he had to leave in a rush not knowing if he’d ever see Sophie again.  And, to his surprise that really bothered him.  He ended up going back to check on her to find that she had completely disappeared.

Five months later Sam is shooting the crap with his brothers at his house on the lake when he notices something in the water.  He dives in and finds it’s a woman clutching onto a big log.  She’s been beaten, shot, and is visibly pregnant.  But when he brushes the hair away from her face and she opens her eyes, he’s floored to discover that it’s Sophie!  And, he quickly surmises that the baby is his!  He wants to get her medical help, but she begs him not to.  Her life is in danger and she has come to find him to seek his protection.  Sam knows that Sophie is keeping things from him, which leaves him and his brothers skeptical of her intentions.  But one thing is for sure, he will do whatever it takes to protect her and his unborn child.

This book is one of those that makes me marvel just how different an author’s writing can be from one series to another.  Thus far, I’ve hated Banks’s Enforcers series, finding the characters lacking and the storylines just not very good.  But I’m book two into this series and just can’t get enough of it, the characters leave you with such a sense of belonging and camaraderie, not to mention the story development is off the charts!

I absolutely loved this book from the very beginning.  It was one of those stories that drew me in and I just didn’t want to put it down!

I adore the Kelly brothers!  So it was great to see them once again!  This time Sam’s brothers really stepped up to save their niece or nephew and the stranger that was carrying him or her.  I especially loved watching the transformation of Garret’s feelings for Sophie.  He went from an almost cruel and suspicious bastard to a loving brother that would put his life on the line to protect her.

The only complaint I have about this book is in the beginning when the brothers (and Sam) kept stating that they must save the baby and saving Sophie just seemed like an afterthought.  But I loved how their mom put Sam in his place about his responsibilities!  I think I want the Kellys to adopt me!  Although they’d probably frown upon me ogling my new brothers.

This was a fantastic read and I can’t wait to delve into the next installment and I can only hope it will be Van’s story!
