Actor Sam Trammell, 38, plays bar owner Sam Merlotte in Channel 4’s new hit vampire show True Blood. His fanbase has grown thanks to his frequent nude scenes on the show. True Blood Season 1 by HBO is out on DVD and Blu-ray now

Have you been surprised by the success of the show?

Really surprised. I thought it would do well but it’s really taken off with the second season. During the first year the audience grew every week through word of mouth. I’m blown away by that.

This is the biggest role you’ve had. What effect has that had on you?

I get recognised every day. It’s exciting – I’m not going to pretend I’m bored by it. I got a round of drinks bought for me last night in a bar, that was nice. I’m also getting more offers for work, too.

When “The Vampire Diaries” returns in January 2010, there will be a new face among the cast members. According to buddytv.com, James Remur, who may be known for playing Dexter Morgan’s father Harry in “Dexter,” is joining the cast.

James will be playing Giuseppe Salvatore, who will be known as Stefan and Damon’s father. Reports say that Remur is expected to start filming his scenes at the beginning of next month. And it looks like he’ll be in more than one episode as well.
