Synopsis:

Watch out Southern California! There’s a new entertainment attorney in town and she’s got game. Only problem is, it’s not the one she should be playing. Corrie Locke belongs behind a desk, not behind a Glock. She should be taking VIP calls, not nosing around a questionable suicide. Instead, she’s hot on the trail of a murderer. Luckily, she’s the daughter of a late, great private eye and she’s inherited his love of sleuthing…and illegal weaponry. It doesn’t help matters that her gene for caution is a recessive one. Corrie finds herself in the center of a murder case, unearthing suspects in shocking places. With a cold-blooded killer on the loose, Corrie will have to up her game, or die trying.

Review:

Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters is a fun new mystery with a great new main character in Corrie Locke. Corrie has just been hired as a new entertainment attorney in Southern California. She is the daughter of a famous private investigator (not detective) and was along for the ride in the whole infamous shoelace case. She spent her younger years hanging out with her father and learned a thing or two for sure. Including how to protect herself, sort of. There is a really large cast of characters and I have to admit I had a hard time keeping up with all of them. But that is just me. The writing is spot on and humorous. The characters are well written and the mysteries are intriguing and kept me guessing.

Along with the main mystery in this fun read, who killed Druby, Corrie is pulled into a couple of hilarious side mysteries. Searching for a cat, helping a rapper who thinks he was abducted by aliens, they had me laughing out loud. Corrie has a wonderful, newly acquired sidekick in Veera. She was relentless in her help and sticking close to Corrie. The diverse group of characters was really fun and (when I could keep them all straight) a joy to read about. Corrie gets herself in all sorts of predicaments and thanks to good friends or foes, she comes out fine. I really enjoyed the quirky characters and situations in this one. Who doesn’t love alien abductions, missing kitties found, murder masked as suicide and humorous dialog.

Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters is reminiscent of the Stephanie Plum series. Different situation, but still some of the same great basics. Great male characters, strong and hilarious main female lead, quirky woman side kick, and fun among all the chaos. Lida Sideris has written a fun and intelligent mystery filled with humor and adventure. I hope this becomes a series. Any reader that enjoys cozies or is a fan of the Stephanie Plum series will really love this one. The mystery was well played and I had no clue until the reveal. Wonderful new mystery on the lighter side that hopefully becomes a series. I really enjoyed this book even with my getting lost in the characters. Get ready to have some laughs and gasps in this exciting new mystery.
