MOVIE REVIEWS: 2012

Although there are a lot of good films out there in the world, bad movies are just as common. With the reliance on digital effects to enhance the drama, movies are becomine more shallow and less story rich. An example of this effect is 2012. While a beautiful breathtaking visual, it lacks the story to make it an epic movie. After all it’s whole plot can be summed up in two lines. This doesn’t mean that everyone will hate it though, let’s here what our OBS staff member thought.

Synopsis
2012 is the adventure that we’ve all have been waiting for, the end of Earth. This story follows humans in the race against time for survival. The Earth’s core heats up and erupts while wiping out everything in its path to start anew. Who will survive, and at what cost?

Review
I was a bit hesitant to even see this movie. There have been so many other movies that have shown the end of the world in a not-so logical way. This movie shows the absolute destruction of the Earth. It is a heart-pumping adrenaline rush from the beginning to the end.

This story follows mainly one family in the struggle to survive the end of the world. Many other stories are intertwined and it is heart-breaking and very real. Many people fight while others accept their fate, but in the end only the strong survive, or do they?

Director Roland Emmerich, who produced “The Day After Tomorrow”, truly outdid himself in this film. From start to finish I was on the edge of my seat. The graphics were phenomenal in showing the actual and very real destruction of our Earth.

The main actors, John Cusack and Amanda Peet, play a divorced couple trying to overcome their breakup and did a great job. These two were fantastic in holding the movie upright all the way through and a great cameo from Woody Harrelson cannot be forgotten.

My biggest problem with “end of the world” stories are the endings. I believe that this movie ended the only way it could end in real life, and I hope the ending will make everyone think a little harder about how precious our life is.

Rating: 8.5/10 stars

Guess everyone’s different. If you like epic destruction and phenomenal graphic, this might be worth renting for you.
