MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4 GETS RELEASE DATE

J.J. Abrams is going to be pretty busy for the next year with Paramount giving both his secret Super 8 project and Mission: Impossible 4 release dates for next year. Deadlinereports that Super 8 will open sometime in the summer, while MI:4 will be shifted from Memorial Day weekend to December 16, 2011.

MI:4 will reunite Tom Cruise with his Mission: Impossible 3 director, only this time Abrams will stay on in a producer capacity. The search for a replacement has been going on for months now, with Brad Bird (The Incredibles) rumored to be the top choice over candidates such as Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and Edgar Wright. Cruise toldEmpire that Wright came close, but confirmed that Bird had won the job.

FROM KRYPTON TO TONY STARK: SUPERHEROES ON SCREEN

Iron Man 2 is the latest entry in a genre that has grown from obscurity to prominence in the last 32 years. Since the late 1970’s, comic book adaptations, particularly those featuring super heroes, have consistently delivered crowd pleasing adventures for the masses and high profits for studios. Just as these films have become accepted as a legitimate genre, they have also evolved from their comic book roots to suit the times.

Undoubtedly, the super hero genre really began in 1978 with the phenomenal success of Richard Donner’s big budget adventure Superman: The Movie. Before Donner’s blockbuster came to the screen, super heroes were mostly limited to comic books, TV and animation. No studio was willing to invest a large amount of money in a comic book adaptation.

THE OFFICIAL PLOT SYNOPSIS FOR VIN DIESEL’S THIRD RIDDCK FILM

We still don’t know if the new Riddick movie will simply be called Riddick or according to that early script review back in April, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking. But, now we do have an official plot synopsis for the Vin Diesel/David Twohy film.
