Alice In…Underland? Four Facts From The Tim Burton Film That Might Surprise You

Alice in…Underland?
Yep, you read that right -– as it turns out, we’ve been calling the land of whimsical fantasy by the wrong name for all these years. “Underland,” says Woolverton, “is the same fantastical land that Alice visited as a child. But she misheard the word ‘Underland’ and thought they said ‘Wonderland.’ Now, as a girl on the cusp of adulthood, Alice goes back and there she discovers that the real name of the world is Underland.” If nothing else, this makes Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” unique as one of the only movies to ever get its own name wrong on theater marquees nationwide — on purpose.

Alice is a Teenager
Like “Return to Oz” or “Hook,” the story focuses on its main character returning to the realm where a great adventure once occurred. “The story takes place when Alice is 19, and she’s about to enter into a marriage she’s not sure about,” explains writer Linda Woolverton (“The Lion King”) in notes distributed to the press. “Time has passed. The Red Queen rules the whole land. It’s under her thumb.”

Freddy’s way scarier in new Nightmare on Elm Street trailer

“One, two, Freddy’s coming for you … ”

The new trailer has gone live on MySpace for the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and you can view its full awesomeness below.

The new trailer shows us a lot more of nightmare Freddy, played by Jackie Earle Haley, as well as the new kids on the Elm Street block, played by Katie Cassidy, Rooney Mara, Thomas Dekker and Kellan Lutz.

In particular, we get to see scenes that are straight homages to the original movie: The claws in the bathtub, the girl floating above the bed and Freddy stretching the wall, not to mention the iconic images of the fiery basement, the little kids skipping rope, the works.

Forget Twilight’s Vampires… Here Comes Vlad the Impaler: The Movie

Apparently being scripted by Scott Kosar, the man behind The Machinist and the Texas Chainsaw / Amityville remakes (hmmmm), it remains to be seen whether Vlad’s big budget outing will focus on his vampiric legend or the fact that he was an insane warlord out for some vengeance and a good time. Either way will be fine, as long as it gives the V-man his time in the spotlight and rescues him from the ignominy of being remembered as a bad Gary Oldman performance and a dreadful Kasabian single.

Alice in Underland doesn’t sound quite right lol.

I hope Batman starts filming this year. Each one is better than the last.

Freddy scared the shit out of me when I was young and I don’t think much has changed. Are you looking forward to the remake?

I’m looking forward to Vlad. I like the old school vampires. What do you think?
