OBS PRESENTS ‘A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM’ BOOK CLUB COMING IN APRIL

For the month of April OBS has a special treat for it’s Book Club, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by William Shakespeare. Most scholars believe that Shakespeare wrote A Midsummer Night’s Dream as a light entertainment to accompany a marriage celebration; and while the identity of the historical couple for whom it was meant has never been conclusively established.

The main plot of Midsummer is a complex story that involves two sets of couples (Hermia and Lysander, and Helena and Demetrius) whose romantic cross-purposes are complicated still further by entering the forest where Oberon, the King of the Fairies and his Queen, Titania, preside. Puck (or Robin Goodfellow) is a major character who is full of mischief and tricks.

Other visitors to the enchanted forest include Bottom the weaver and his friends Snug, Snout, Quince and Flute the amateur dramatists who want to rehearse their terrible but hilarious version of the play Pyramus and Thisbe.

Dust off your books everybody! April is right around the corner!
