FOOD IN FICTION: A GAME OF THRONES, PART 1

The series A Song of Ice and Fire is filled with feasts and party foods, and with the HBO series finally here, I though we should celebrate. Both of these recipes are from book 1, A Game of Thrones.

Even when there is no special occasion, dinner at King’s Landing is impressive, especially for the Hand of the King and his daughters Arya and Sansa: “The first course [was] a thick sweet soup made with pumpkins” (American paperback, pg 215).

Catelyn Stark struggled while taking care of Bran (I won’t say why because of spoilers), but when she finally slept, she was brought an amazing breakfast the next morning: “hot bread, butter and honey and blackberry preserves, a rasher of bacon and a soft-boiled egg, a wedge of cheese, a pot of mint tea” (pg. 135)
