Joe Johnston on How Captain America Will Tie In To The Other Marvel Films
Source: slashfilm.com
We know you have a lot of questions about Marvel’s upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger. Top of the list probably isn’t ‘how does this film tie into the other Marvel films?’ and yet that’s the question that is being answered for now. Director Joe Johnston is talking about the tie-in moments, and the answer might actually be refreshing.
Director Joe Johnston told CBR:
There are links between all the Marvel films, mostly ones that only the fans will pick up on. We have several subtle references to certain elements in Thor, but since Captain America is a period picture taking place in the 40’s, there are fewer opportunities for contemporary links to the rest of the Marvel universe. We can, however, create events in our story that will be paid off in Avengers and other Marvel pictures.

Dwayne Johnson Joins ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ Sequel
Source: theflickcast.com
Brendan Fraser will not be returning to the Journey to the Center of the Earth franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fraser dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, so the torch will now be passed to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for the next installment of the adventure series, entitled Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
Johnson will not reprise Fraser’s role in the sequel. He will play the boyfriend of the mother of aspiring adventurer Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson.)
Family friendly Journey to the Center of the Earth was one of the first films to capitalize on the 3D craze, and earned over $100M domestically, and $250 worldwide.

MOVIE NEWS FOR SEPTEMBER 1ST, PART 2: KICK-ASS 2, CLASH OF THE TITANS SEQUEL, AND SUMMER MOVIES
Author: Staar84 | Filed under: Movie News, News BlogKick-Ass 2 has been greenlit, according to Mark Millar
By Meredith Woerner at io9

Even though comic book movie Kick-Ass didn’t do so well in the theaters, the DVD sales were pretty good. So good, in fact, that the graphic novel’s writer, Mark Millar, says the next movie has been greenlit.
While we’re pumped for another awesome Kick-Ass film, we’re urging everyone to take Millar’s word with a giant grain of salt. An AICN commenter heard Millar on the radio claiming that Kick-Ass 2, the movie, was good to go.

Jonathan Liebesman Given Thankless Task of ‘Clash of the Titans 2′
via I Watch Stuff

Despite no one really caring for it all that much, Clash of the Titans‘s mix of Sam Worthington, CGI and an afterthought of 3-D was somehow enticing enough for it to make nearly half-a-billion dollars worldwide, so, no surprise, we’re getting a second one. But who will accept the chore of making a big-budget sequel to an immediately shrugged off would-be franchise? The director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, obviously. After what the Hollywood Reporter claims were a full summer of negotiations, Jonathan Liebesman was finally offered enough money to take the job of directing the film. Godspeed.

The Summer Sci-Fi Movie Awards
By Peter Hall at Hollywood.com

Welcome to the first-ever batch of MindFood Sci-Fi Movie Awards, where I assign completely arbitrary awards (henceforth known as MindFoodies) in categories I’ve just made up to signify how I’ll always remember a film. Now that the summer movie season is over, it’s a perfect time to look back and hand out some newly minted, yet still largely irreverent, MindFoodies to all the theatrical sci-fi(ish) films that came out between May and September.
Best Reminder That Mickey Rourke Is Insane – Iron Man 2
Iron Man 2 could have easily stood to lose 20 minutes of non-action, but even with its flabby midsection intact, I still wound up having more fun with it than I did the first film (yes, I know I’m in the minority here). Jon Favreau’s superb augmenting of practical effects with CGI is, once again, top notch; Downey Jr. is just as roguishly charming as he was the first time out; Sam Rockwell is hilariously scummy; and Scarlett Johansson kicks a surprising amount of ass in it. But for me the truly memorable addition was none other than Mickey Rourke. That accent, those tattoos, his dreadlocks, the freakin’ cockatoo — the man lives in a different world than the rest of us, and I love that we’re seeing that personality bleed from off camera to on (he took it to an even more “WTF is he doing?” level in The Expendables).

MOVIE NEWS SEPTEMBER 1 PART 1: JAMES CAMERON, PICTURE FROM PLANET OF THE APES, AND MORE
Author: Katie | Filed under: Movie News, News Blog
“We’ve always had an interest in seeing our stuff on film or TV. It’s just tricky to find the right partners. We probably could have made a ['StarCraft'] movie or something on TV years and years ago, but it’s really important to us that we find creative people that are really talented but also really excited about our properties. That’s always been the challenge for us. I think if Jim Cameron came to us tomorrow and said, ‘You want to make a ‘StarCraft’ movie?’ we’d probably sign that.”
Lovecraft film plot details leak
Source: Blastr
TempleofGhoul’s Dejan Ognjanovic got his hands on a copy of Guillermo del Toro’s script At the Mountains of Madness, an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s novella of the same name. Based on his first impressions, the film is feels like “a Hellboy movie without Hellboy, with a light dose of Carpenter’s The Thing. “
He basically sums up the entire plot in a few words saying that “It is a period piece: the frame story takes place in 1939, at the very beginning of World War II, but the bulk of the film is made up of a flashback narration by the last survivor of the previous expedition to the South Pole from 1930. In this version, it is somewhat simplified into: Scientists go to Antarctica, resurrect primaeval monsters, mayhem ensues.”

Planet Of The Apes Photos

There hasn’t been much news recently about the prequel to Planet of the Apes, that is, until one fan happened to wander past the set and snap these great behind-the-scenes shots.
These new photos from the set of Rise of the Apes won’t give away any details about what the CGI primates will look like in their final stage, but they do show a bit of what it takes to create them. Here’s a glimpse of a stuntman wearing a mo-cap suit and shambling on all fours on the streets of San Francisco.

The Hunger Games Looking For Director and Gets PG-13 Rating
Source: ReelzChannel

Now that Mockingjay — the third and final book in Suzanne Collins’ bestselling Hunger Games trilogy — has been published, fans have turned their attention to the in-progress adaptation of the first book, The Hunger Games.
Movie studio Lionsgate has opted for a PG-13 rating for the dystopian story, which should just about be doable. Fans of the book will recall main character Katniss’s involvement in the televised Hunger Games, which saw 24 contestants in a fight to the death. There can only be one winner in Collins’s brutal story of war, which made for an action-packed but violent read.
Collins wrote a draft of the movie script, with Billy Ray (State of Play) stepping in to polish it off. Now the search is on for a director, thanks to the movie’s expected production start in early 2011.

MOVIE NEWS FOR AUGUST 31: GHOSTBUSTERS 3
Author: k.avalon | Filed under: Movie News, News BlogNew Plot Details About Ghostbusters III Revealed
Source: insidepulse.com
Harold Ramis confirmed it. Ivan Reitman is directing it. Bill Murray spoiled a little bit of it for us.
But still, what is the extremely anticipated Ghostbusters 3 going to be about? Now we finally have a little bit of an idea.
If you’re looking to not know a thing about the film, then I’d sincerely avoid this report because you don’t want to be spoiled or anything. For those of you too anxious and antsy to go much longer without knowing about our favorite quartet of paranormal warriors, then continue on.
Bloody-Disgusting has reported that Reitman is looking to jump-start a brand new franchise in the ghost-busting world by inserting some younger generations.

The storyline sounds a little predictable- but, it’s GHOSTBUSTERS, so really, I guess the key will be to make it fun and kooky and just a little bit creepy (or , at least it was creepy when I saw it when I was a kiddie). I guess the question is, do we need another ghostbusters movie? Does anyone care what happened after 2? (I do like that Ackroyd, Ramis, Murray, Hudson and Moranis have all signed on, though)
