Great news for Joss Whedon fans in Sydney – not only can you see him at the Opera House exactly a month from now on August 29, but you can actually party with him afterwards, and have a chat about – well, whatever pops up, really. Perhaps the plot for Firefly Season Two? The Avengers? Why not! It’s up to you.

In this exclusive Sydney appearance, auteur Joss Whedon will talk about his ongoing love affair with the popular, the ways in which storytelling changes – and the ways it stays the same. Topics for discussion include outsider heroes, strong women and the uses and abuses of power.

Joss will also discuss the creative ways in which he has played these out in a variety of media forms: in films from Toy Story to the forthcoming The Avengers, in TV series from Buffy through Firefly to Glee, and across a vast range of comics.

For those of you who aren’t quite sure who Joss is, his credits include Titan A.E., Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Speed, Alien Resurrection and Disney’s box-office smash Toy Story for which he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay.

In this new clip from “Eclipse”, Jacob is being teased by the pack about Bella while she is visiting at La Push.  We also get our first glimpse of Leah Clearwater when Jacob introduces her to Bella.

An Interview with David Slade

The director of “the Twilight Saga: Eclipse”, David Slade, recently sat down for an interview with IGN.  The interview video includes clips from the film as well as some behind-the-scenes footage.  Slade talks about the storyline and themes within the film, including his goal to make Edward a bit scarier in this installment.

“New Moon” Wins License of the Year Award

Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” won the license of the year award at the opening night ceremony at Licensing International Expo in Las Vegas late on Tuesday.

The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) also honored “New Moon” as the best film, television, celebrity or entertainment program. Two other awards went to “New Moon” licensees, and Nordstrom won the best retailer award for its “New Moon” program.

“Eclipse” Merchandise Now On Sale At Nordstrom

Tying back to the above posting about the licensing awards given out earlier this week, Nordstrom’s exclusive line of clothing and merchandise for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” is now available for purchase in stores and via their website.   One of the featured products is DuWop’s Twilight Venom lip plumper and lip stain in a new shade.  The new shade is called “blush” and is a much more understated color than the the original blood red version.

What did you think of the clip of the pack teasing Jacob?  It’s a great reminder that they are just a bunch of teenage boys underneath all the fur, huh?  I’m looking forward to seeing more of Julia Jones playing Leah Clearwater.  As much as I want to punch Leah in the stories, she adds a great dimension to the dynamic of the pack.

David Slade’s interview was very interesting.  He is such a stark constrast to Catherine Hardwicke.  He seems very deliberate in everything that he does and the way that they analyzed the character’s emotions was really interesting.  I see some strong similarities to the attention to detail that Chris Weitz brought to “New Moon”.  I can’t wait to see the final product – I get chills when I see the newborns coming up out of the water!

Has anyone purchased any of the “Eclipse” merchandise yet?  I’ve got my eye a few things from Nordstrom.  I love the “Camp Cullen” t-shirt and the necklace tank.  I ordered some of the new Twilight Venom from Sephora yesterday.  I can’t wait to get it.  I loved the original stuff, but it’s just too dark for me to try to pull off in the summertime.
