The sci-fi series that never said die is rising from the Earth once more.
Comedian Patton Oswalt will write ‘Serenity: Float Out, a comic book that picks up where the film ‘Serenity’ left off, with the death of the ship’s pilot, Wash.
Oswalt said the new chapter of the ’Firefly’ saga features the remaining crew christening a new ship, hence the “float out,” and recalling stories of Wash in action.

HUGO WEAVING IN TALKS FOR RED SKULL IN MARVEL’S CAPTAIN AMERICA?

Marvel Studios has zeroed in on Hugo Weaving to play the villainous Red Skull in “Captain America.”
The dealmaking with Weaving is in a delicate stage that will play out in the next day or so. Agencies grouse that Marvel plays hardball in the negotiating process and also demands multi-movie commitments, though the latter usually applies to actors playing its heroes.

Were you a fan of the film ‘Serenity’?
I think Hugo Weaving makes a great villan regardless of the film that he is in. He just needs to tweak his very recognizable voice because every time he opens his mouth he sounds like Agent Smith. Do you think he would be a good actor for the role of Red Skull?

HOW MARVEL BECAME A BUSINESS SUPERHERO

On Dec. 31, 2009, Disney finalized the purchase of Marvel Entertainment for US$4.3-billion. Disney is known as the world’s purveyor of fairy tales, but not everyone knows Marvel’s Cinderella story. Just over 10 years ago Marvel was a bankrupt company, searching for a hero to save the day. The saviors came not in the form of a Prince Charming but rather as a web-slinging teenage misfit, a group of mutants and a scientist who turns green when he gets angry. Not to mention a group of brave executives who resuscitated the one power those iconic Marvel characters had all always had — the power to make money.
Peter Cuneo became chief executive officer of Marvel in July 1999, brought in by Isaac Perlmutter, a power player in the toy industry whose company had just taken Marvel out of bankruptcy.

Quite an interesting story indeed. What you you think? Which comic house do you prefer Marvel or DC? Not to get off topic, but did you know that DC took it’s name from 1937’s Detective Comics? DC released the most valuable comic of all time in 1938 with Action #1 Comics starring none other than Superman, with Marvel releasing its first comic title in 1939, featuring Human Torch and Submariner.

Author: whatategilbertgrape | Filed under: Comic News, News BlogSource: io9

2010 sees the 75th anniversary of DC Comics, which launched in February 1935 with the first issue of New Fun. Since then, it’s gone on to publish some of the greatest comics ever. Here’re seventy-five you really should’ve read already.
The Superman Chronicles Vol. 1
What is it? The first appearances of the world’s first superhero.
Why you should read it: When it comes to historical importance, the origins of an entire genre seems like a kind of big deal, especially when that genre goes on to take over popular culture in all its forms.
The Batman Chronicles Vol. 1
What is it? The first appearances of DC’s most popular character.
Why you should read it: Because they’re the first appearances of Batman. Weren’t you paying attention to what I said above? Also: Hello, historical significance, not to mention the chance to see how the original version of the character differs from his current incarnation(s).
Read the read of the list here…
This is a pretty tight list. I will have to add some titles to my ever growing wish list. Which do you have and which do you want to get? Can you believe it’s DC’s 75th anniversary? If your not a fan of comics, tell us why.

SUPERMAN’S DEBUT COMIC BOOK SELLS FOR $1M

A rare copy of the first comic book featuring Superman sold Monday for $1 million, smashing the previous record price for a comic book.
A 1938 edition of Action Comics No. 1, widely considered the Holy Grail of comic books, was sold from a private seller to aprivate buyer, neither of whom released their names. The issue features Superman lifting a car on its cover and originally cost 10 cents.
The transaction was conducted by the auction site ComicConnect.com. Stephen Fishler, co-owner of the site and its sister dealership, Metropolis Collectibles, orchestrated the sale.
Fishler said it transpired minutes after the issue was put on sale at around 10:30 a.m. Eastern time. He said that the seller was a “well known individual” in New York with a pedigree collection, and that the buyer was a known customer who previously bought an Action Comics No. 1 of lesser grade.

All I can say is Wow! Whether you realize it or not there are some serious Comic fans out there. I still mourn the loss of my comics I used to collect in the early 90’s. After I losing them all in a move, I was so disappointed I fell off the Comic train and only recently jumped back on. I had the issue when Superman died titled “The Death of Superman” and “Funeral of a Friend”, among many other titles. Ok, I’m done talking about it, for it still throws salt on that wound of loss to speak of it.
How high do you think is too much to pay for a comic?
