‘BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE’ LIVE ACTION FILM

Blood: The Last Vampire is a 2009 film based on the cult anime manga by the same name. It’s main character Saya, is a 400 year old ‘Halfling’ born to a human father and a vampire mother, who uses her samurai skills to rid the world of vampires.

Saya is sent to an American military base in Tokyo by the organization she works for named “The Council”, there she encounters the bat-like creatures known as Chiropterrans, that live by feeding on human blood. Saya realizes that this may be the opportunity to finally destroy Onigen, the evil patriarch of all vampires. Saya becomes friend of the base general’s  daughter named Alice, forming her first human friendship in centuries, this is when she learns that her greatest power over Onigen is her ability for human connection.    

The film was directed by Chris Nahon and produced by Ronny Yu. South Korean actress Gianna Jun (Jun Ji-hyun) plays the role of Saya, and Italian actress Allison Miler as Alice. The story is set in the 1970s, like the original setting for  the anime. The film premiered in Japan on May 29, 2009, and was releases in the UK on June 26, 2009. Sony Pictures licensed the film for release in North America where it was releases on theaters by Samuel Goldwyn Films on July 10, 2009.
